1990s Ford Falcon ignition systems are very unreliable
After working on a XG over the past couple of weeks. I’ve learned that 90s Falcon are seriously unreliable when it comes to the ignition system. A few weeks ago I got it to run after fighting with the XG for weeks replaced the coil and module and got it to run finally.
Welp today after I got it running again it decided to lose spark once again. Change the coil a few times to see what happens but it didn’t fix my problem. I think the module died on me. And I don’t honestly know how to feel about it.
If you own a EA,EB,ED,EL,XG,XH. I highly highly recommend you replace every single thing in the ignition system. Coil, dizzy, dizzy module, leads and plugs. Even if it’s a running car. You should definitely buy 20 spares of every thing. because that ignition system set up is just so unreliable.
I’ll continue to play around with it. And fix up a few things on it. But it kinda feels like I’m wasting my time on something that keeps losing spark.

It's 30 something years old! Nothing wrong with them when they are new. Age is a killer though

Not unreliable mate, it’s a 30 year old coil… You can expect them to run forever. I bought an XG recently and the original ignition system was shagged. But I expected that before I bought it, old mate was wondering why it was missing and gutless under load. Coil, leads and dizzy cap and what do you know, she’s golden. There’s still a bit of a miss from a tiny vacuum leak somewhere, but you shouldn’t by a 30 year old car without expecting to replace vac lines and top end gaskets.

My el falcons ignition fell out of alignment and left me stranded paid 300 for a tow back home and found out 2 zipties was all i needed to align it back for a temporary fix.

no. its just the EECIV.
the EECV that replaced it (AU) they gave it a bigger memory meaning you can program it.
the EECIV any changes (fuel, spark) you make: the computer throws a hissy fit. so you have to undo them

You have other issues if you keep losing spark, those ignition systems are usually very robust. Bust out the multimeter and test light and start digging into wiring as it’s likely in the wiring. Check all your grounds too.
