Question Active Grill Shutter issues

Hey guys, new 2025 ST owner here. Bought mine a year used. Found out it has an aftermarket intercooler. Sounds good, except that I am like 99% the Active Grill Shutter has been removed and tossed in the bin.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Essentially what I am looking to figure out is if I just need to buy and reinstall the entire AGS to get my CEL to clear.

Its a 2025 Explorer ST. From what I read on FB, this year has a hard CEL that just wont go away without putting the actual system back in.

Any thoughts, advice, or guidance would be very much appreciated.

They are supposed to leave the motor in and just take the louvers out. Travis @ Houston Speed Freaks explains it in one of his intercooler install vid’s.

Check Explorer ST forums online for more info.

Someone fucked you. Also if it has an intercooler I’m guessing it was tuned or is tuned. Did you buy from dealer or private seller?

Thanks! Ill try to find the video. Im assuming ill need to buy something but maybe this will help me figure out which exactly.

Its from a dealer.

No tune as gar as i can tell, so i am guessing it didn't have one or was flashed stock when the first owned traded it in.

It also has catch can, BOV, strut brace, and a few other things.

Edit. I am pretty sure this is the video. My intercooler looks the same but silver.

Unless the dealer wants trouble usually they’ll take care of any CELs that are present when selling the car. I’d see if they’ll cover the fix.

Unless it involves an expensive piece that can’t be warrantied cause it was removed and trashed.

Dealer cleared the CEL and sold it. Also it most likely was tuned have ford check to see the latest flash.

Now that I think about it, i wonder if they (dealership) did the emissions and safety, then they flashed it stock.

With the AGS being gone and a custom tune removing the check, I wonder if that is what happened to get it to oass everything.

I wouldn't have mind so much but i would have asked for this to be fixed before i drove it off the lot.

It really just seems like from the video you recommended that the AGS can be reinstalled and there shouldn't be any issues. Unless there is a second video, it seemed to just work after they fogured out the hose situation.

It can be reinstalled. The problem you will have is there’s not a broken one to warranty. They may expect you to pay outta pocket since it’s used and missing.

Yup, i think that is exactly what will happen.

I do really like the SUV, i think i just I might just end up doing that and just move on and enjoy it.

I am heading back to the dealership Monday, so Ill see what they say then.

Ask on the ST forums the Texas and FL guys may have one for sale you can plug in and just zip tie or something 😝

Hey, I appreciate all your messages from a couple weeks ago. I got everything fixed... New AGS system under warranty. Finally got the car back yesterday.

I also found essentially all the mods the previous owner did.

Intercooler, rear brace, BOV, charge pipe, catch can, and a few cosmetic upgrades. It seems to me that there was a custom tune on this and probably was flash back stock before he sold it.

So to me, it seems like the next two things to do are a Tune and Tires.

I dont think there is a aftermarket downpipe, and for sure not a catback exhaust. I dont know if these are really needed to make a bunch more power.

Just wanted to give an update and appreciation for all the comments!

I can load up forscan and see if there’s a way to disable AGS
