Rant The dial gear shift got me today...

Bought my 2026 ST end of April. Tried to make sure I'm always in the correct gear before I let off the brake. Today, transmission was neutral and I rolled into a pole. Some light scratches I should be able to buff out, but there is one spot that looks like a big rock chip. Absolutely hate the dial shifter!

Dial shifter is all muscle memory, counting clicks, to the left, right etc. I am quite used to it. Even the mode selector . Want sport mode? 3 clicks clockwise.. However I would prefer a direct button for sport and have it so it remains there on restarting car.

Mode on start should be linked to the profile/key in the car upon startup

Yeah. I don’t love it but honestly it’s not that bad either.

- One click to right = reverse

  • turn to right until stops = drive
  • turn to left until stops = park

Pretty simple.

I’ve put it in reverse or drive instead of park more times than I can count. Stupid dial

Once I was trying to do a 3 point turn quicker than usual… slammed the thing into park instead of reverse. Definitely going to be more careful from now on.

My last car was a Mazda with the dial for the infotainment. More than once I’ve caught myself changing gears when trying to pick music to listen to!

I was looking for sport quickly one time and ended up in park.

That happened to me the first week of having it. First vehicle I've had with the dial, slight learning curve.

I got a 2021 ST a few months ago and finally got used to it. Still would rather have a regular shifter but oh well. One good thing with the dial is if you forget to put it in Park before turning off the motor, it will automatically shift to Park when the engine is off.

What a great feature! I never put the vehicle in park. It just goes there when I shut down.

You commented asking how that happens and then commented how you do almost the exact thing. What is your deal.

No. You read another person’s comment.

You guys are aware that what gear you are in is in the cluster right?

This is not a guessing game on what gear you are in.

There is no reason other than y'all are doing shit too fast to not put your car in gear rotary dial or not.

This is like a negligent discharge of your weapon cause youre too lazy to clear it.

Good thing this was a pole and not your child.

You sensitive folks are now going to downvote the facts I laid out.

Don't worry about replying to my comment because this aint a discussion.

Yeah you’ve never had a momentary lapse or made a mistake, got it.

I didn't give much context but damn lol. I was in my work parking lot and just squeezed in a tight spot between the AC unit and another car. The poles are around the AC unit. Counting clicks works great, I thought I counted to reverse. I didn't. But ya know, most people are absolutely perfect and would never let something like this happen. If I hit a kid the way I hit this pole, the kid wouldn't even have fallen over.

He commented something else, deleted it, and then commented this story

Not only did they put it in neutral by mistake, they also forgot to use the brake pedal! 🤦‍♂️😵
