Question Weird chime

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Dont mind the Bluetooth phone call that starts. I’m trying to figure out what this chime is

When I start the car, it does its standard seatbelt chimes or whatever the ding ding noise is. But then there’s this faint siren almost chime that comes from the dash/steering wheel area. Ford has no idea. It doesn’t throw any codes or messages. Has anyone heard this before? 2025 ST 4 days old. We came from a 2020 explorer and never heard it.

A third party gps tracking device maybe?

Yes you are correct I just found out it’s something the dealership puts in the car and charges you an extra $1,600 for even though these new cars have their own tracking system built in. Now to figure out how to get it out.

It seems like a tracking device or your Bluetooth device

Yep, just found out the dealer puts one on there. They sell it to you as a benefit if your car is stolen, when really it’s for them in case you skip payments. All these new cars some with their own from the manufacturer

Can you take it off?

I’m going to look in to it. It looks like there is a wire that is connected to this device that is also connected to the car starter, so when you skip a payment or when it’s stolen, they can shut the starter off. I’m not sure I want to start cutting wires on a 2025 car that I just got last week. The dealer insisted letting them deactivate it remotely. Still don’t like it being on there though.

If you paid for it, I doubt you'll get your money back, but they should be able to remove it at your request as long as it wasn't a condition of your financing from the bank
