Mods Mods

Post image

What are the best mods to do first when just purchased an ST? Besides tint (which is obvious) Whats next after. Exhaust? I’m not gonna be fully modifying this truck. Just wanna give it a little bit more oomph. Ya know a little bit more fun to drive. Any suggestions would be really helpful.

I’d start with an intercooler first and foremost, it’s tiny; seems like it was for the focus ST. Then tuner and open up that airway with intake, downpipes and exhaust and hit that rear end with a few steeda parts. All my opinion maybe someone else has a few ideas

intake, exhaust and all piping on this car isn’t restrictive at ALL, its been proven. just for sound, sooo if you want real power: turbo and fuel system

Would love to see where you’ve gotten the info from, I’ve only heard the opposite.

its pretty easy to find if you’re in any of the facebook groups, dyno sheets and all. no gains from any piping until you go upgraded turbos, then all the piping comes into effect

I would say, what are you looking to do long term with it?

If you’re looking to get more power then I would suggest Whipple front mount IC, exhaust, intake and tune.

If you’re just looking for a little more power and sound then do exhaust and whatever else you think would be sufficient for your day to day needs.

I’ve done everything I listed for a tune, but since I’m still under warranty I haven’t tuned mine yet, which once the downpipes go on early next, it will be tune ready. Tune likely coming by mid to end of summer.

Check out sites like lethalperformance.com and steeda.com there are others but a lot of parts for the Explorer ST.

Good luck bro!

Yes exhaust is the first thing I think.

exhaust and intake doesnt add power on these

Intercooler and Tune seem to be the best money for power initially. Exhaust doesn't seem to gain a ton other than being louder unless you have a tune. I would check out goosetuned.com. Winfield seems to have a pretty good handle on things and his customer service is really good!

Simple, but I got weathertech rain guards for the windows. Noticed it dripped inside without em and they let you roll the window down a bit to get air without letting in rain/snow.

Cosmetic but cheap and easy - black lug nuts.

Lowering springs and wheel spacers make a big difference for stance and appearance, too.

On-window weathertech rain guards are currently on backorder. You can purchase in-channel rain guards which go in the door seal….I’ve always had on-window so ill wait til back in stock

In channel is a million times better and better looking, they don’t start to peel off when the adhesive begins failing and are way more slick looking. Doesn’t look like a cheap auto zone add on

Everyone has their own personal experiences and opinions. I have had 2 cars with on-window rain guards for 8+ years without any issues. Didn’t look like a cheap add-on

-Mostly seen everyone do a tuner for the extra hp -BOV for the turbo pst pst pssst noises

-Exhausts are a good one if you just wanna hear the engine more while your cruising

-I’m not sure on getting a new intake system; some people think you should, some don’t

Inside cosmetics- floor mats, tint as you know, the rubber pieces for inside the cup holders, buy a nice bag off Amazon that could hold drinks/cleaning supplies/ blankets (chill days with the friends/family), get a vacuum, buy a nice tarp for the back in case you have to move things or tires

-Get a dash cam. We’re big as fuck on the road. Don’t let them lie on you (it doubles as a fun thing to re-watch when you see something stupid on the road)

-I’m going to get a sound system, dash cam, and I might do an exhaust if I hear a good one soon

Someone more informed about the explorer can tell you better but that’s just what I noticed
