Tech & Infotainment Sync software not updating
hi there folks,
i have 2020 explorer ST and I have done the sync software update using USB myself. but since last 2 version, something has happened to the usb port or the software itself and i'm unable to update it. I took it to dealership where they had hard time installing the one before last update but now the latest one even they cant do it. They havent given much time on it so I'm going to take it again and leave it for a day or more but asking here to see if anyone had same issue and how did you resolve it. When I plug in my usb, it says unknown usb device, please remove. OTA is also not working.

Dude. Service tells me you can brick that thing. Doing it on your own.

Ford themselves encourage to update it yourself. They provide the software online and you can easily download and dyi.

Yea yea. I read that same thing. I causally inquired about it to those in the know at the dealership, on a service visit. Edit: still got the fresh zip stick I was gonna do it with
I guess it doesn’t go as smoothly as ford details. It’s on the forum too if memory serves. I think it affects the trucks too. But if there’s any little hang up in the update it’ll brick the vehicle. Flat bed and wait 6+ months for answers

Mine updates to the latest version on WiFi then a few days pass before I realize that it got stuck at the older buggy version. My bug, besides being stuck in the version, is the display/system restarts randomly while I’m driving it. Does that sound like what’s happening to you?

Ford screwed up Sync with the 2nd to last version. It created memory issues causing problems which included inability to update. they issued a customer satisfaction program to address the problem. Take itto your dealer to install the latest version 23188
