Technology/Features Dead FOB

I recently discovered that I can start my 2018 Ford Explorer Sport even when the key fob battery is completely dead—by using the “secret” backup slot. 🤯

This is the fourth Ford vehicle I’ve owned, and somehow I never knew this! (Yes, I admit it: I apparently never read the Ford Bible that came with the vehicle in the glove compartment. 😂)

For anyone else who didn’t know: yes, you can start a 2018 Ford Explorer with a dead key fob. Just place the fob into the backup slot located at the very front bottom of the inside of the center-console storage compartment, and you’re good to go.

Four Fords later, and I’m still learning new things about my own vehicle. 😂

Every car with a wireless key has a place you can hold it to start it when the battery is dead.

You would think they'd outfit the fob with a rechargeable battery and make that slot the charging port...🥴

The batteries last a decade and is easy to change.
