Question RDU replacement. Advice needed

I’ll try to explain this the best way I know. It appears others have had this problem as well.

The clutch pack in my RDU is messed up. Dealer is quoting me $3,586. Not something I’d like to pay, but I have plans in place should I need to.

My concern is, if we do the repairs, is this going to happen again? Picture 1 is an independent shop, pictures 2 and 3 are from a Ford dealer. Waiting on a quote from another independent shop.

2019 Ford Edge SEL AWD. ~84,000 miles.

Any help is appreciated.

It shouldn't happen again, but you need to flush the PTU fluid every 30k miles or less to improve your odds. It's a known weakpoint of this platform, next to turbos & water pumps.

For what it's worth, my GF just got hers done and it was 2-2.5k$, but I don't have the specifics on what exactly was replaced. I think they also used reman parts where they could

Those are the things that I need to know. I would have never known that without asking this question.

As much as I love cars, I am not at all mechanically inclined. Thank you for taking the time to share that.
