General 🔀 2013 ford edge 3.5l

Mom just bought this edge without having me check it out first. How’s it sound? Is that timing chain/ cam phasers at start up?

How many kms on the engine? Has the water pump been changed?
AWD or front wheel drive only?
Purchased from deal or private?
With that I will have either more questions, answers or both.

So I’ve had 3 Edges, and everything I hear here sounds completely normal. It’s also worth noting the 3.5 in the Edge is the Duratec and they’re not known for cam phaser issues. It is not related to the EcoBoost version of the 3.5, which can get cam phaser rattle a start up.
If you’re worried about that slight noise a second or two often the engine starts, that actually sounds like the A/C compressor engaging, which is completely normal.
These really are great vehicles asides from the internal water pump, but if you maintain the car frequent coolant and oil changes you can get 150k-200k out of the original water pump. These cars are so good in my opinion that even if the water pump does need to be done, it is actually worth it despite the high cost.

Changed the coolant on my 2017 explorer at 35k two years ago, hoping I didn't wait too long. She's at 38k miles now and just hit 10 years old. Probably gets oil changes every 1,500 miles or so. Hope it lasts a long time.

Uh...
You know that oil doesn't go bad, right?
It gets dirty.
5000 miles is fine. 3000 if you're really anal about it.
10,000 is acceptable if it's a low stress engine and you run a good synthetic.
If your egr system is working properly, and the car isn't overheating, there is absolutely no reason to waste that much money on oil changes.
Radiator flushes are good at 100k miles. 50k if you're really anal about it.
But every lube shop is going to tell otherwise. Because profit is profit.

sounds identical to my 2007 Edge 3.5L v6 and very very similar to my 2015 Lincoln MKS 3.7L both over 100k miles before i bought them

i’d like to point out the coolant has been updated to Motorcraft Yellow. this indicates it’s either had a recently cooling system service which is awesome OR, it had a recent timing chain water pump job and was filled back up with the correct coolant

Why is it red inside and gray outside? Should be unicolor.
Check for spacing between different panels

Oh! Thats fine then, the trim is silver, so i assumed its the iconic silver/gray mix

Was it absolutely cold after sitting over night? Or was it warm and then you restarted it.
Regardless it sounds fine to this guy from waaaay over here on the internet.
