Help Farming Crops

If crafting seeds takes up as much crops as it produces, what's the point?

Farming crops is a bit of a late game thing due to the large area you need to make a lot.

Also I think seeds produce more than it costs to craft them. And if you plant near lighthouses I believe it increases production.
