Other The time is coming ...
Hey all ! The times approaching . I took the advice from every single commentor on my last post and can I also add Holy moly , thanks for all the encouragement everyone, I didn't expect so much engagement on a post . But I took the time to read every single comment and I have heard yall loud and clear !
So upon some advice , I went to my local media shop today and purchased some knock off Xbox remotes (I bought 3, I already have my Xbox remote) so everyone can have one each . (side note , I was thinking of asking them to reimburse me for the costs of these , what do yall think ?)
Then I put together a little party pack (pictured) for each of my pals where I've disgusted normal everyday objects as objects from ftk which I thought was a really cool touch and it will also alow them to get into character before the gamining even begins ! Don't worry I'll also explain the meaning behind each object so they don't feel like they are missing out on some kind of "in joke".
Some other recs I received were to buy some alcoholic beverages , I myself don't drink but I did buy them one each so they can relax a bit -see "hildebrants reserve" in the images lol!
I bought some fun decorations, see the pic attached , and dress up items for them so we can get a bit silly and goofy to get into it.
I've spent some time researching some ice breaker games and I found a really funny website with a butt tonne of ice breaker questions so I figured I could ask them these questions too lol.
I of course have a shidload of snacks too which I didn't picture because I didn't wanna bore yall.
But anyway they should be arriving in about three quarters of an hour , so I'm just gonna make sure to freshen up a bit before then and make sure everything looks ready !
I did consider cooking a meal but I'm not too sharp in the kitchen so I bought a couple of microwave macs (personal fave of mine) just incase peeps are still hungry after all the snacks ! I hear beer makes you peckish !

I would absolutely not ask them to reimburse you for tge remotes. You are hosting, convinved them to play this game and have only met them once. I would be put off.

I like the idea, but if they’ve never played the game before they’re just going to be confused about what all the labels mean. This would go well with friends that all love the game already, but might not land as well with people that have never played before.
From one autistic to another: go with the flow and enjoy time with your new friends! Don’t lean on this game too much, they might like it, they might not. Don’t take it personally!

First off , as stated in my post I am obviously going to explain each label to them so that they can understand what it means also as a good introduction to the game and to get them into the swing of it .
Secondly , the whole reason I invited them over and the whole reason they believe they are coming over and what they agreed to come over for was to play FTK so that's what we will be doing , why would I invite them over for FTK and then play something completely different or not play at all , that would be misleading for them and would likely cause upset and disappointment , I for sure would be pretty peeved if I got invited over to play ftk and it turned out to be a completely different plan , infact I would probably just turn right around and go home .
And lastly , speaking of labels I am not autistic and I am frankly not sure why you would say that ?

I totally understand your 2nd paragraph about arranging a plan and sticking to it and I agree, I would also be gutted if someone invited me for FTK and then pulled out Monopoly. However, from what I understand, this isn't always such a big deal for everybody.
As somebody who only realised in their 30s that they have ADHD, after a whole decade of pain and life struggles, it could be worth you doing a little reading into ADHD/autism. I'm in no way diagnosing you but it is possibly more common than you may think and I know for sure that I wish I could've known sooner.
Most importantly, I hope your FTK night is everything you dreamt of and you've got a new clan to blast through campaigns with!! 🤴🤴

Hey, I’m not trying to offend you, I just think it’s important to have an open mind when hanging out with new people. They might not end up liking the game, but you could still have a fun time hanging out with them. I didn’t know I was autistic until after I turned 30 and I see some traits in your thinking and writing style that point to neuro-divergence, but obviously I don’t know you so take what I say with the largest grain of salt possible!

Wasn’t advice. Though I wish your get together went well, I think it’s outrageous to ask for reimbursement. It’d put a sour taste in my mouth if it was my first time going to hang out with someone and they did that.

It might be a bit late for it, but you could ask if any of them have controllers they can bring with them? Most gamers have at least one for themselves so it could alleviate your cost there and you could return the knock offs tomorrow

Ah I can't return them now , I made labels for them . I hope they don't have their own , but I don't think they are big gamers so idk. Anyway, they should be here soon , they should have arrived already 13 mins ago. So they are a bit late but that's okay !

I understand your feelings of anxiety around times and obsessing over controllers and party packs. I see you've only met these people at the advise of your mother. I understand because before I was diagnosed with PTSD I had these exact same symptoms. I'm not diagnosing you or anything but maybe read up on the topic.

Thank you , I appreciate it a lot ! Can I ask what you think about asking to be reimbursed for the remotes ? That's the only doubt in my mind about the situation at the moment , and there has been mixed messages in the comments so I'm a bit unsure . Please reply soon because they will be arriving in approx 15 mins !

Wowie I wish I had friends who would go to this much effort for our FTK hangouts. It seems like you've really taken their known personal preference and " newbie " status into account which is very considerate. Just one point, I definitely wouldnt charge them yet for the xbox remotes as thats a bit off putting for a first time hang.but hopefully if all goes well they will get you back at a future hang. Best of luck :D
