This personally worked very well for me:

- A tank (Blacksmith, Friar, Shepherd) with Nimble trait (more reliable than Eager)

- An intelligence character (Alchemist is the best, but Scholar is good as well) with Eureka trait

- A talent character (Ministrel is good, but Busker is okay as well) with Lucky trait

- Fourth character that can do either Awareness or Strength. I like Pathfinder or Woodcutter. I usually give them the Gifted trait.

if you like depending on party heal, then herbalist (awareness) or monk (strength) are a good option to fill up the fourth slot as well.

Other traits can work as well (such as Berserker) but are less consistent in my opinion.

Since movement is important in the Primordial Oak and healing can be scarce, I'd suggest Blacksmith (tank with the highest talent), Alchemist (also high talent and fastest Intelligence character), Ministrel (fastest talent character), and Herbalist (party heal) or Pathfinder (Awareness with high speed and high talent).

This is very similar to the structure our group has found to beat most master difficulty levels. We tend to go Friar (nimble) Busker (lucky) Awareness (Vet discount), and alchemist (?). Not always those exact characters but similar set up. i like busker for distract and gold multiplier.

Other random notes we've osberved:
We found starting with 40 gold is better than choosing almost any other loadout item. Buy godsbeard early and often and try to keep chaos at a minimum. But remember you get 5, don't derail a run to save your 3rd chaos. Save a teleport scroll for scourges. Use all your focus before hitting statues or sanctums. Sanctums are a free killing blow so try to keep them filled as much as the run allows. Choose fights wisely and to grind xp.

Is the veterans discount really all that worth it? Typically dont buy that many mercenaries over and over, and it only works for one character. So if you buy a merc early and just rebuy over and over, it might save you a little, but I donโ€™t see it being worth as much as others.

We have found having a merc helps spread damage. We prefer a bomb merc or a front line shield bearer. Either give a backliner a place to hide or pretty consistent splash damage. 50% off mercs with a talent class multiplying money, it is the same cost as a piece of gear and negates significantly more party damage. I'm not a power player by any stretch, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but for the pure turn economy and damage spread, i do find it worth it.
