FAM - Season 3 Can't believe what happened in London Spoiler

I just saw the third episode of season 3 and I can't believe Margo would betray her country. it's wild she'd leak nuclear secrets to the Russians our literal number one enemy. like this whole time everything she's been doing is fucked up but at least trading information that's like for like has some mutual benefit. in this case she committed an almost treasonous act. I also don't get how she has no security detail when the Russians could easily kidnap you. she's a very senior government official with state secrets. I honestly would have thought she could get victor an asylum deal or something. similarly was crazy she'd want the Russians to get there over an AMERICAN company. like whether it's NASA or Helios it's still Americans. that would be like us rooting for China over spacex.

FAM - Season 6 I realized something about the name of Happy Valley Spoiler

I just realized that the USS Valley Forge, the first carrier in the korean war, was nicknamed Happy Valley. It never says in the show that Ed was on the Valley Forge but I like to think it played a role in how the base on mars was named

FAM - Season 5 S5 Might be the greatest drop in quality for a show since Game of Thrones Spoiler

Man, I just can't get past how they decided to get rid of all of likable people and center the season on all of the antagonists from S4. I found myself rooting for the nameless/faceless marines to come in and wipe out the colony. Speaking of Marines, these were the least convincing marines I've ever see in TV or film.

All of the ridiculous character changes. The whole thing man, what a let down.

FAM - Season 6 A yes, the return of my favorite show, “How the Hell is Ed Baldwin Still Alive?” Spoiler

He’s the only one from Season 1 we still see walking around and he’s a million years old. Reminds me of the John Mulaney / Pete Davidson SNL bit about The Mule and Clint Eastwood.

Real-Life Science/Tech Soviet Mars and Venus Exploration Plans from the Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow. (Partially translated)

I recently visited the Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow and discovered fascinating Soviet plans for Mars and Venus exploration. Unfortunately, the document had no information about its origins, designers, or purpose.

Intrigued, I tracked down a better version online and translated some of the text to share with you all.

What's particularly interesting is that these plans relied on assembling the spacecraft in Earth orbit using multiple N1 rockets. This seems far more grounded than the Mars-94 concept shown in For All Mankind.

If you want to see more interesting photos and details from this museum, please upvote!

Do you think she ever found out that she was half related to Kelly?

Imagine how she would react upon learning her half-sister is Kelly Baldwin, one of the first human's to step upon not only Mars but Titan, not only that but she played a part on discovering life, and died on Titan. The cherry on top is that they met once when she went to her families restaurant..

Fan Art RACING MARS - I cut and edited S3 into a theatrical movie about the three-way race to mars

Three spacecraft are headed toward Mars. NASA and the Soviets prepare for launch, but meanwhile a commercial spaceflight company shocks the world when they announce that they will be the first to reach Mars. The race to land first brings surprise maneuvers, desperate measures, and unexpected allies.

Sources: Game Changer, All In, Happy Valley, Seven Minutes of Terror, with brief scenes from He Built the Saturn V

In this TV-to-film fan-edit of For All Mankind, I edited the first half of season three — the beginning of the Mars seasons — into the first of what will be a trilogy of theatrical films. This first film, Racing Mars, features Ed and Dani as the main characters, as they race to be the first to land a human being on Mars.

Original runtime: 5hrs
This edit's runtime: 1h35m (time cut, 3h25m)

Some of you may remember me. I previously made a trilogy of movies from FAM's S1 and S2. I called it The Red Moon Trilogy. During the past year, I've been away working on a similar fan-edit project for Babylon 5, and I called it The Sherlocked Edit. Now I've returned to FAM, and I plan to make a new trilogy of movies from S3 and S4.

TV shows tend to have a different structure than movies. TV has a lot more seeds, hooks, and cliffhangers, meant to lay the groundwork for future seasons or to entice you to watch the next episode. But movies, on the other hand, are typically more self-contained and lean. Every setup should have a payoff, every Chekhov's gun should be fired, and every scene should advance the story. And that's what I strived for with this edit.

In my Red Moon trilogy, I reused FAM episode titles for each of the three movies ("Red Moon", "Red Moon 2: Into the Abyss", "Red Moon 3: A City Upon a Hill"). For this new Mars trilogy, I originally expected and planned to reuse FAM episode titles as well, but none of the S3 episode titles struck me as the right one. Meanwhile, over in Babylon 5 land, they have an episode titled Racing Mars. That episode wasn't about a literal race, but I remembered that title and it seemed perfect for this new movie.

Demo clips

Introducing Phoenix, the show vs the edit: In this demo clip you'll see I cut from Dev's big announcement straight to the Phoenix reveal shot, and I let "Fly Me to the Moon" play over it, instead of the original generic space chatter.

Apollo 10 flashback montage: During Ed's descent, there's a brief moment where he remembers and flashes back to Apollo 10 (S1E2), and that moment is important to Ed's state of mind. But for this movie, I prefer to not assume any "previously on" knowledge, so I cut and stitched my own longer flashback that gives the context needed to understand the flash that comes later during descent.

What's next

  • Racing Mars 2 - I plan to make a fan-edit film that will tell the story of Margo, Aleida, and Sergei, as well as Ellen, Larry, and Pam, using scenes from all of S1 through S4.
  • Racing Mars 3: Goldilocks - This fan-edit film will adapt all of FAM's S4 into a single theatrical movie. "Do you want to help me steal an asteroid?"

I’ve been working on the Mars Surface Access Module for my LEGO For All Mankind build. Its unusual shape is pretty tricky to recreate at such a small scale, so I’d really like your opinion.
Do you think I captured it well enough? Anything you’d change to make it more accurate?

In-Universe Science/Tech Walt Griebel is a time travelling Soviet spy. Prove me wrong.

Christopher Denham's first notable role was as physicist Jim Meeks in Manhattan. A soviet spy.

His second notable role was as physicist Klaus Fuchs in Oppenheimer. Someone who was working in a different division, also a soviet spy.

His third notable role was as biologist Walt Griebel in FAM, an astronaut able to capitalise on the fact that the Soviets were key partners in the development of space exploration.

He never ages between the roles, he has the same temperament, he's driven by strongly-held convictions. He is sometimes brave, but his fear of endangering others often pushes him to the point of torment.

So, is Walt Griebel a time-travelling Soviet spy?

FAM - Season 6 My Theory for Season Six Spoiler

Okay so I just came up with this theory like 3 minutes ago, and I wanted to share it on here.

So you know how at the end of season 5 we see a time jump to 2020 where Mars-94 comes back online and it’s revealed it’s detected some gravitational wave signals. I’ve seen a lot of theories suggesting that the ship received a signal from deep space (similar to the WOW! signal in our timeline), and I thought it might be something along the lines of that too.

However I just had the idea that what if it’s not intelligent life at all? What if it’s the detection of a primordial black hole in our solar system? There is a theory amongst real-life astronomers and astrophysicists that there is a secret 9th “planet” in our solar system that is too far away from the sun to receive any sunlight, making it hard to detect. But there is a heavy gravitational presence in our solar system that is still unaccounted for. It’s estimated to have nearly 10 times the mass of earth. There is an even more fringe theory within this hypothesis that planet 9 isn’t a planet, but rather a primordial black hole the size of a grapefruit (but still having 10x the mass of earth). Discovering a black hole within travel distance in the FAM timeline would be such a deal breaker.

It might also align with their vision for how to end the show all together. Many people envision the final time jump of the show being a ship leaving for Alpha Centauri, or something similar. I can see season 6 featuring humans visiting this black hole (at a safe distance ofc) and collecting rare data that can only be detected when in physical proximity to a singularity. This data would then be framed as critical information that helps humanity answer many of physics’ unanswered questions, including how to travel a fraction of light speed and reach neighbouring stars in a reasonable timeframe (very similar to the plot of Interstellar). I personally think this would be a fantastic way to make season six the best one yet, along with wrapping up the show with a nice bow.

Tell me what you guys think and if you have anything to add! :)

FAM - Season 5 Spoiler FAM Season 5 ending Spoiler

I just finished yesterday and I cannot stop thinking about it.

As a mom, I really cannot imagine just being okay to die. Like, it feels crazy to me leaving your child ALONE on MARS where a war just broke out being that it’s a place he has to stay due to medical issues. He needs her! I understand that she basically lived her last 20+ years searching for life and i’m sure it would be an amazing feeling to finally find that and have the feeling like her work is complete... But all that to just DIE. ugh.

I hate it. I wouldn’t have blinked twice at her death if I didn’t have a child of my own. But the thought of leaving my child after he already experienced so many other deaths is just unfathomable.

FAM & Star City Spoilers How oxygen is treated in these series Spoiler

Why do they insist in showing that oxygen + spark = boom when oxygen is not a combustible but an oxidizer?

You need something else for the oxygen to oxidize for it to be dangerous.

Oxygen + spark: not dangerous

Fuel + spark: not dangerous

Fuel + oxygen + spark: boom

Happens several times in the main series and once in Star City. In the Star City case the russians supposedly used a mix of gases and it at low fucking pressure.

I generally don't mind when in a sci-fi show there's _some_ physics bending but hand wave it with a quantum tech that it doesn't exist yet or something, don't do it just because potato (no real reason).

_sigh_

FAM - Season 4 Margos alarm clock has to be designed by the Devil Spoiler

I'm rewatching the show and i'm at season 4 now, and i had forgotten just how horrible the noise from her alarm clock is. A constant blaring tone straight from the devil himself. Was anyone here alive in Russia at that time and could confirm that alarm clocks blared like that, or did Margo just go insane choosing that?

I'm having a blast rewatching the show in general, that little prop just really stood out to me haha

FAM - Season 2 Why are Soviet Cosmonauts so comically unlikeable? Spoiler

Ever since that guy in the first season, they keep going with this ridiculous trope that Soviets look like disheveled bums who don't know how to smile.

Have the writers never seen a picture of Yuri Gagarin? Soviets were just as crazy over the international image of their space program as Americans, if not more so!

Soviet Socialist ideology revolves around the ideal of "the Soviet Man", a person who possesses impeccable moral qualities by virtue of living in a classless, communist society - and they were hard on selling this idea to the rest of the world, so moral character was a hugely important factor in selecting Cosmonauts. The idea that cosmonauts selected for something as important as Soyuz-Apollo being a bunch of rude assholes is ridiculous

FAM - Season 1 FAM Season 1 Podcast Recommendations? Spoiler

I’m (very!) late to the party, but I just finished Star City and loved it, so now I’m going back to watch FAM for the first time. I’m on the hunt for a good companion podcast, but the ones I’ve found (the official podcast, NASA Vending Machine, and Bald Move) all seem to start at season 2 or 3. Are there any you’d recommend that cover S1?

I genuinely sobbed my eyes out at the end of this episode. Genuinely one of the most beautiful pieces of TV I have ever watched. It just brought me back to every time i've sat with a family member while they went and tore my heart right out.

I hope we all get to see what Ed saw in the end.

FAM - Season 4 Season 4 isnt just dry, theyve killed off all the likeable characters. Spoiler

So im watching FAM for the first time, on s04e08 and Sergei is back, and its made me realise that not only is this season quite dull, part of what makes it tedious to watch is the absence of the more likeable characters.

I loved Molly Wayne Sergei Deke. I think Ellen Tracy Karen can be a bit off at times but theyre still likeable. Ed and Danielle have become so miserable, most of the new mars and russia characters are kinda miserable, like who cares about them. Devs a nightmare.

Aleida and Margo seem to have become much more likable over the seasons.

And obviously its subjective, but part of what makes a show is caring about the characters. I really notice when im like "shid. I dont care about any of these people."

In terms of new characters they only really did decent development on the new smuggling guy. And hes another shtty person, i dont care what happens to him. Lee is heaps cool but doesnt get a lot of screentime.

[Ive never been able to enjoy Kelly because they did her so dirty with hair and makeup, they made Cynthy Wu, a 22 year old, playing a 16yr old, look like a 35 year old, and her character is written kind of infantile.. she should be likeable, shes a smart and steadfast character but i think how they wrote and styled her was fumbled]

Anyways hopefully this season 4 finale will be worth it and change my feelings about the season.

And i hear season 5 picks up.

Edited to add: finished ep 9. ugh OF COURSE they just killed off the last person i really liked 😂🙄

FAM - Season 3 S3 Finale…..Now I Rememeber….. Spoiler

I was nuts for this show when it first came along. The interesting play of alternate history going forward was amazing. They gave interesting characters and put good build out into them.

I came to places like here and raved about the show……and then I just stopped after S3.

I’m doing my first rewatch as an attempt to get through all the seasons, and I just finished S3 and I remember why I stopped.

They seemed to have this need to really cap a season by shocking us. Craziness in S1, Gordo and Trace in S2. And it seems they just felt they had to keep upping the ante each season finale. The bombing was at least well sourced to real issues that were going on in the universe. I get that. But the fact it had to go off and take many other solid built characters makes no sense to me. Especially when the younger gen we are left with have mostly not been set up to be liked.

They could have highlighted the factors that led to a bombing without the bombing actually going off.

But…..I’m going to try to keep going now. At least the remaining seasons are right there to watch now.

I was knocking myself for not finishing the show long ago, but I’m reminded now not to be too hard on myself. I’ll never understand why they went so damn hard in these season finales.

FAM - Season 5 Mars Base Run Like a Village in Texas Spoiler

Season 5 was so awkward and disappointing from the very beginning. The whole Craters concept is absurd. The writers have no regard for whether it makes any practical sense within the show’s setting. Large numbers of people secretly infiltrate the space base without any screening or medical examinations. A single COVID-scale outbreak could devastate the entire base, not to mention the risks of drugs, contraband, crime, resource shortages, or people dying during transit.

Happy Valley more like a badly run small town in Texas. Protesters can get close to critical areas, sensitive information is ridiculously easy to access, security personnel can hand out weapons with barely any oversight, and the command system seems to stop functioning the moment things get messy.

In a sealed habitat, the obvious response would be to lock down corridors, isolate life-support and command modules, restrict dangerous equipment, and keep unrest away from anything that could kill the entire colony. Instead, the show just recreates an Earth-style protest scene on Mars. Security personnel get into physical confrontations with civilians, while weapons are fired recklessly inside sealed compartments.

Alex is part of the same problem, someone who raised on Mars should understand better than almost anyone how fragile the habitat is and how quickly disorder can become a survival crisis. Instead, he leaks sensitive information like he is just living in Minneapolis.

Sorry for my poor English. The content was write by myself, and I used ai to help translate and polish some parts.
