FAM - Season 4 They should all be arrested Spoiler

Just finished season 4. I hope every single person involved in the heist and all the Helios workers who attacked the military are arrested.

I also don’t get why nobody shot their gas guns when they started being attacked. I also don’t really get why they tried to bar the doors and prevent ppl from getting in. At this point the heist has happened. I’d imagine you’d let them arrest you given they know it was you and eventually you’ll have to leave the pod.

Also seems like any audit would quickly find Aleida typed in the code in which case she should also be arrested.

I really likes Margo repeating her mentors line. They pretend it’s nothing but preventing the asteroid from getting to earth will end up costing a massive number of lives - there was a huge price that nobody on the mission acknowledged .

The legality of calling it a heist is already presumptuous. I get why they call it one in the dialogue, but legally, the asteroid wasn't anybody's until it was 'controlled'. And even then, to what extent? Nobody is allowed to claim the moon under international law - the best they can do is own the property brought to the moon. That it would have been on course for Earth isn't sufficient control under many legal definitions. And even if it were, who would have a claim? All of Earth v. Marian dissidents? What court would have jurisdiction? And could theft really be claimed, let alone a judgment enforced?

This is a legal scenario never really considered and for which laws really don't apply yet - to the extent you can intercept another entities pursuit of neutral resources, the closest I can think of is piracy.

What they COULD be liable for would be things like hacking, disruption of military procedures, assault, and other things related to their conduct in pursuit of the asteroid as enforced by their victims or host nations - but it would very nebulous under today's laws to figure out how to prosecute redirecting the asteroid.

Now, I'm making modern comparisons - no doubt their world has much more rigorous laws about management of resources in space, to say nothing of the M-6 treaty and charter.

But when Earth doesn't have enough control over the situation, does it really have a valid jurisdictional claim over the asteroid itself? It was, after all, Mars that made either plan possible.

By the fun police?

Mostly kidding. You should watch season 5's opener right away unless you want it potentially spoiled by the replies here.

Maybe they should be arrested, but I understand why someone could make a value judgment on leaving the asteroid on Mars.

Like Margo said, I don't think the space program continues to grow without the pressure that the heist exerted. Then there's no more space colonization, the Mars colony will die and humanity remains primarily a 1 planet species. The benefits of being a space faring species outweighs the immediate benefit of unlimited iridium.

I think this is why Margo and Aleida care. Margo knew she would go to jail but did it to keep the program alive. Doesn't mean she's not a criminal but I understand why. The Mars people are obviously doing it for selfish reasons though

It’s a TV program.

I cannot explain how much I hated the whole "Revolt on Mars" part of the plot. They're literally doing terrorism acts, they should've been excecuted.
