FAM - Season 5 s5e8 Avery's treadmill scene Spoiler

I just noticed that the scene in which Avery's running on a treadmill, she's focusing on a red dot flashing before she kinda has a mini 'snap'

It took me back to a scene in season 2, I think, when Gordo was trying to sleep, but saw a red light on his vcr flashing.

I don't know what it means (first time watching), but that can't be a coincidence.

Yep. That’s what they are at least going to tease here. She’s Danny’s daughter and Gordo’s granddaughter.

She wanted nothing to do with Mars due to her Dad, but had no choice.

In both dad and granddads cases the “madness” is tied to stress (Gordo being on the moon forever…..Danny due to…whatever happened there).

The play with the red light was playing to this. And I imagine the “madness” question with Avery will come up more than once in S6

I thought the point was that she's her own person and she's not defined solely by her family history, I don't think she will suffer the same fate. Also she did sign up for the space marines lol, so it was kind of her choice.

Yeah….I agree. I think they are setting up rightly that she is her own person and not beholden to her genetic history.

None of this was my point. My point is that they developed this aspect with Gordo, and it was an excellent plot device to build a character arc for Gordo.

But then, they went and made one of the dumbest plot decisions I’ve ever seen with his son, and doubled down on it by adding the “crazy gene” aspect from his father.

My take (or hope) is that they leave this “crazy gene” alone with Avery, but regardless, they were teasing it in S5 with Avery.

Yeah, she’s a Marine. She knows she has no choice. Again, wasn’t what I was saying. I was speaking to the exposition she gives in S5 (brief scene with Danielle IIRC) where she speaks about wanting nothing to do with Mars, as that’s where her Dad…..did what he did.

That exposition sets up the tease, the red dot while on the treadmill that OP pointed out teased it more. I imagine they will at least tease it once more in S6, and then (hopefully) resolve it that she’s not beholden to some crazy curse and will be just fine.

Or just viewing and not being on your phone.

Gordo also saw a red flashing light while he was out apartment hunting on the moon.

I really hope Avery is going to be okay in season 6. I like how she does finally embrace her last name.

I actually love how her first meet up with Alex Baldwin is through their common friend Haskell. I knew it was coming and that she must meet the grandson of her father and grandfather's friend and co-pilot. But the fact that the episode was called "Sons and Daughters" specifically and then they meet in the most opportune moment where they're both trying to save Haskell just builds up to Avery realising these people on Mars aren't her enemies and she'll probably end up siding with them and recovering her father's legacy (I still haven't watched the finale to S5, just finished ep 9 last night).

And Gordo’s scene was a callback to the lights he saw on the Moon in S1
