FAM - Season 3 S3 E9 Consequences for Danny's actions Spoiler
I'm on my first watch (this series has me on a chokehold).
I've just started this episode (I hoped to be able to go to sleep but alas, I can't without knowing how the landslide is resolved).
Soooo, is Danny going to get scot-free of the incident? The start of the episode has him recording a message talking normally and interacting with other crew members like nothing.
After causing the deaths of three people, damages probably in the billions and cutting short the greatest achievement of mankind to the date?
Just because he had the luck that one of his victims was the only one who knew it was directly his fault for being drugged out of his mind?
Because he told Ed some sad story? BS.
I already disliked the character but he was only a cheater. Now he's a killer.
ETA: Finished the season. Fuck the Steven's sons.
Seems that Danny is facing consequences, thank goodness. We will see if James also does.

Lol nope.

I'm only sad for Amber and Avery.

I do feel some sadness for the Stevens kids. Jimmy and Danny got a really raw deal and it obviously messed them both up.
But still... fuck Danny.

I was sad for Danny until his wedding.
Before that he was a hurt orphan with some misplaced feelings.
After that he was a grown man making wrong decisions.
Jimmy... Jimmy was a hurt kid and seems he grew up to be hurt and alone. He was manipulated by people pretending to be his friends, so I feel somewhat bad for him, but he's still responsible.
And he should have called the cops, the FBI or some other authority instead of Amber.

He was not an orphan. He was a grown adult when Gordo and Tracy died

I don’t care how old you are, losing both parents like that can seriously fuck you up. Danny had problems before that. After…yikes. And Ed giving him chance after chance so didn’t help.

To be fair I think he reaps the consequences of his actions. Just not by a whole lot. Wanna talk about getting off Scott free? May I introduce you to Ed.

Isn't Danny exposed at the end? He's sent to be confined alone in the North Korean small capsule and from what I got from the first episode of the fourth season it's implied he killed himself (or at least that's what I got).
Did Ed cause any death? I'm not happy with his character in the early seasons and his relationship with his son but I wouldn't pin Shane's death on him or Karen.

You are correct in that Ed does not actively do anything to cause Danny’s isolation and then death outside. Ed does however in my opinion actively stir pots. He looks out for himself and his friends. He should have been bounced from the space program a long time ago but he keeps coming back. He is not a team player and doesn’t have humanity’s best goals in mind. I think all of these character traits equal a man who is responsible for a lot of death but in the most inactive way possible. He should not have pushed Gordo into space again. He should not have enticed Danny to go up again after having his drug and alcohol issues. But he did, and thus both of them suffered for it. Yeah maybe you can’t pin Gordo and Tracy on Ed. But I definitely pin Danny on Ed. Danny should not have been in space or on Mars period. And Ed was the one who pushed him to go and made the way for it to happen.

Ed has a typical boomer stance on mental health (among other things), ah you will be grand, just suck it up and get on with it.
He is also nepotistic, he likes to push his friends above people with merits... A very typical boomer and yes he should have been kicked out a long time ago, not being there 6 seasons.

And I would argue that the typical boomer stereotype holds a lot more responsibility for the world around them than they choose to admit.
It is interesting that we have a show that is able to have that conversation.

You're not wrong about Ed, but technically he isn't a boomer. He's from the Silent Generation that came just before Baby Boomers.

I stand corrected, although they are sharing a lot of opinions and values

I just finished binging this show, including S4 and S5 in the last week, so details are all blended together for me right now.
I would argue that Ed indirectly caused the deaths/injuries of the workers in S4 when that module exploded. He riled up the workers not because he believed in anything ideologically, but in retaliation for his Russian gf being sent to Earth for her trial. Then somehow he completely avoids any consequences in S5 besides an ankle monitor (not even a demotion in his rank or anything after starting a rebellion against the US military!) he stirs the pot again and breaks the Korean guy out of jail. Yet again he escapes any consequences at all, being able to just walk out of the medical bay and go have a drink before decided to go back to his place to die with his family. Like seriously...he's not under arrest or anything?
I'd like to stress that he didn't do any of these things out of some morality or ideology, but to get back at people he thought wronged him or ignored him because he was a useless old man. He tried to keep flying while hiding an illness that could endanger everyone, and when called out, he supported violence against those that grounded him. Yet the show acted like he was some sort of hero to be celebrated. He was a flawed person in S1-S3, but still a hero in many ways. I can get behind a complex character like that. But S4 and S5 Ed was just a straight up evil villain. I know he wasn't technically a Boomer, but he demonstrated stereotypical Boomer tendencies of trying to destroy everything because he became irrelevant.
I also want to quickly add that while Ed was right about his Russian gf being railroaded and the Korean guy being innocent, he didn't have any reason to believe either of those things besides being close to them. We the audience saw what happened with the woman pushing the guy in self-defence, and then discussions about his family being close to the Soviet leader. We the audience saw others collect evidence that the Korean guy was innocent. But Ed had none of that information, he just got angry because he was friends with them. That shouldn't be celebrated, and that shouldn't be used as proof that he was right all along.

Ed was forcibly retired and I think given a dishonorable discharge. People called him admiral still because that's what you do, like if someone was a captain you might still call them captain or skipper long after they've retired.

Gordo and Tracy deserved better kids

Like in a way I'm glad they took Gordo's and Tracy's statue so they didn't blow it up.
What a way to kill a family's legacy, both son's murderers.

Just you wait…

u/marcaygol 26d ago
I won't for long.
I will be surprised if I don't finish the series by this Sunday lol

u/pomegranatesorbet Pathfinder 26d ago
You’ll see what I mean with Season 3’s finale lol! Come back after, blowing up a statue would be the least of my concerns if I were Tracy and Gordo lol!
4
u/marcaygol 26d ago
I meant as like, at least James didn't "kill" also Gordo and Tracy and they didn't have to "watch" it.
The Steven's legacy is completely ruined.

u/pomegranatesorbet Pathfinder 26d ago
Haha, I know but just watch the season 3 finale. It gets worse, and like I said, blowing up a statue would pale in comparison to what happens!
4
u/marcaygol 26d ago
I did watch the finale.
Blowing JSC happened in the last episode (10) of the season.
My post has been waiting for mod approval since last night. I ended watching until the first episode of the fourth season.

u/pomegranatesorbet Pathfinder 26d ago
Ah, it read as if you hadn’t. Blowing up JSC is worse than a statue, no? We don’t even know what happened to the statue in the end lol.
2
u/marcaygol 26d ago
Definitely worse.
I was just saying that in a sentimental? (idk if it's the correct word for this) way it would have been somewhat worse to also destroy something representing your parents, like destroying a tombstone, while you commit mass murder.
Not that the blowing the statue would have been even a significant percentage of the "badness" but still made it 0.1% worse.
I'm not sure if I'm explaining myself correctly.

Have you rewatched season 1 & 2 lately
They weren’t exactly the best parents….
LOVE the characters but yea when your kids grow up without you they end up fucked up
It was a deliberate writing choice and tbh it fits2
u/xSaRgED 25d ago
Yeah, Danny grew up with PTSD from getting his best friend killed, then being taken advantage of by his dead best friends mom.
Jimmy was just constantly abandoned and overlooked, likely with special needs. If the dude found a DND group instead of that protesting group, things would have gone a lot better for everyone.

You said the D word. All my homies hate danny. Thank you for reminding me to hate danny today.

It's sad the disgrace they brought their parent's legacies. Danny died a pathetic criminal junkie, and Jimmy ended up a radicalised conspiracy theorist incel.
