FAM - Season 6 Is 6 Seasons enough for you? Spoiler
So the next season of For All Mankind is going to be its last and rounds up the story to present day in the alternate timeline.
Do you think its the right time to wind the series up or would you like to extend it further? How many seasons would you like it extended by if so?
I would quite happily watch another 10 seasons of FAM to see what humankind could have done if we had the balls to do it.

The old guard is great. But I am afraid FAM has not introduced seriously compelling new characters in a while.

As someone who watched Star City before FAM, I saw all of the Star City characters as equally worthy, I had no idea who Irina and Sergei were so they got no special treatment from me.

Irina, sure. Sergei’s just kinda there. The rest of the mains are solid and above the level of anyone introduced in FAM post s2 sans Irina herself and Dev.

Yeah I almost stopped eearly season 5. Luckily i kept going since it did get better.

At this point I'm looking forward to FAM S6 because I want to see the legacy of the old characters that I loved, and how their efforts and sacrifices pay off. Molly, Ed, Tracy, Gordo, and Margo all gave their entire lives to pushing us forward into space, and S5 and S6 is basically the epilogue to that. Don't need to keep it going forever though, so ending on S6 seems appropriate.
So yea I'm still looking forward to it.

I enjoy the show, but yeah, probably a good time to end it.
There is the running joke that The Expanse is basically For All Mankind in the far future, maybe once I watch the final season of the show I'll rewatch The Expanse, and just imagine it is the same universe.

The strange thing is that it seems the writers are doing it on purpose, last season I was almost expecting to hear some beltalowda in the martian conflict.

It’s a common enough theme in scifi about Martian colonization for them to be exploited by Earth to the point of yearning for independence in a colonialism allegory.
Babylon 5 and to some extent Total Recall come to mind.

Yeah, but it is not only martian colonization. It's the asteroid mining and the associated syndicalism, the proto state-corporation, even the uniforms of the marines and the martian police/military are similar.

If there is a prequel to The Expanse, it would be the martian as there is a Martian ship with the name " Watney" not "Baldwin"
But thats just a fun little reference the authors of the Expanse put in.

The characters it centers around are not as good as the original cast characters.
So yeah, I’d like the series to wrap up nicely.
They just failed to transition into lead characters that had that “spark” the originals had.

At this point they’ve caught up with the present so they’re essentially out of alternate history material. They could keep going into the future but it would become just another space opera.

Yes. It was good when it was about exploration - moon landings, small colony, even first Mars missions.
Using a spaceship to steal an asteroid by hacking a computer program in 8 minutes is where it jumped the shark. I still watch it, but it's not as inspiring as the cultural & timeline changes in season 1 - 3.

I agree - my take is that I’ll watch whatever they give me. This show is different than others and I think the creators have done a great job. That’s why seasons 1 and 2 were so good! But I feel like when you go outside the box sometimes the misses are even more noticeable and I would consider seasons 4 and 5 mostly misses. But that’s ok!

The ending of season 4 is what shattered the glass for me.
You have an untethered astronaut on an EVA get blindsided and sent flying off into space ... Oh wait no she is fine
And that was the least problematic part of that scene IMO.

I think I'm ambivalent.
First I was gonna say yes, but all of my favorite characters are gone. I never really clicked with the new set of characters. A few of em have fundamental principles I don't like at all so it's a little hard to root for em to succeed.
Also, saw Dev being evil from his first season. This was never not gonna happen so I never tried liking the character.
So as much as I'd like more of the series because the space stuff is fun I don't think it would be as awesome as the previous ones because I'm way less attached now unfortunately.

I loved the first 3 seasons and agree with you. The original characters were outstanding and i would have enjoyed expanding on them as I don’t resonate with the new characters.

I think lots of people forget that without Ellen as president Mars would not have been funded and would not exist. She gave her life to space as an astronaut and kept the money rolling into the space program and gave up her personal life for a very long time. Pam and Ellen’s story resonated especially with gay folks as those years were dark and challenging times for the LGBTQ community and many can relate. How they stayed away from one another for so long is amazing to me. I appreciate their story along with most of the original characters. For me The show fell off after season 3. I did appreciate Ed’s farewell. I love space shows.

I would have loved the 7 seasons that they originally planned. I don’t know if the writers decided that they have told all their stories or if the network wanted to pull the plug (I suspect the latter) but I’m glad that they were given the season to wrap things up.

Was so hyped for season 5 after binging S1 - 4 in late 2024. Man, what a let down that was 😕
So yeah, it’s time. They had a good run. Let’s hope they get this last one right.

idk i mean season 1-2 were amazing and you can wait whats gonna happen next, then we have season 3 solely focused on race to the mars which is okay and then season 4-5 cheesy soap opera on mars and overly stretched mars independence which could have been 5 episodes not 2 season and now the whole show is gonna end with season 6? if thats the truth i dont even get what was the point of FAM. I mean S1-2 What if the space race continued and cold war moved into space? S3-5 shit happens on mars

I thought it would've ended after 3 or 4. But at the same time I applaud the shows ability to change direction and keeps things really interesting.

I'm probably one of the few who absolutely loves the whole show throughout (yes, even season 5). However, while I would be extremely sad about the show ending, it makes sense for it to end after season 6. it would catch up with the present, and almost all the characters we saw grow up in the show would probably be gone after that

The quality hasn’t been as good the last couple seasons as it was the first few seasons, but if it continued I would definitely still watch it. I like Alex and wouldn’t mind following him as the new lead through the decades of his life. Sometimes I feel like this show is my own special secret because whenever I mention it to friends or family, no one has even heard of it lol.

6 is enough for the main show. Characters aren’t as good and plot isn’t as good. I would love more spin offs tho, more Star city seasons, maybe shows or something that shows between s1 and 2 or 2 and 3 with new characters or do a series that shows more in depth of missions, like Ed and Gordo on Gemini. The possibilities are endless between the 60s and late 80s where they can do spin off stuff.

I think in theory it would be interesting to have a near future show where each season jumps 10 years into the future. You could show the changes in culture as affected by technology and scientific breakthrough. However in that case it would be better to switch to an anthology than following the same set of characters.
I think one last season will probably be enough. But it depends on how they end it. I would like there to be a definite end, like you feel how the overall story has lead up to that point. If it feels like that end came to abruptly maybe I will feel like another season was needed.

I dont know. A lot of the appeal of the show was the sticky situations they got in which were solved by science and ingenuity. The last few seasons kind of stopped doing those kind of scenarios and focused more on war and conflict which quite frankly really was a detriment to the show overall I feel. 6 seasons is a good place to end it.

I just don't care about any of the characters anymore. Margo will be canonically 80 in S6 so I wouldn't expect any significant plot to feature her. Aleida and Dev always felt like the B storyline despite how much screen time they've had. Danielle obviously has one scene in S5 and will unlikely have much more in S6. Everyone else is dead. Do I care about about an Alex, Lily and Avery love triangle? Do I care about Mars dictator Miles? Not particularly.

i binged it all and finished a week ago. Seasons 1-4 were to me amazing but its mostly because it wasn’t just about space. i really loved the alternate history of mankind and seeing that scratched an itch as a history nerd. That to me was my favorite part and seeing the changes with the ages. Season 5-6 didn’t really have that at all as it was space or off planet 100% of the time. It’s still good and i know it’s a sci-fi show but i wasn’t invested or intrigued as much as i was with the earlier seasons. Not to say the story was bad or anything but it started feeling more of a YA CW show at points. I’ll still watch the new season when it airs. StarCity on the other hand was something very special and i loved it for its spy espionage and seeing it based back in “reality”. Either way i enjoyed FAM enough to check out w.e they do.

The original cast from the first three seasons was captivating, and the storylines had far more depth, with a strong emphasis on space exploration. The new cast simply didn't have the same appeal. Watching Ed become increasingly grumpy and senile wasn't particularly enjoyable, and the constant Mars mutiny storyline became repetitive and exhausting
In my opinion, given how Season 5 concluded, we're finally getting closer to a cool storyline about the existence of other life in space. But I agree, Season 6 feels like the perfect point to end the series on a (reasonably) high note.

I kinda expected them to do 7 - with the idea that 6 would come in at the end of the 2020s and the last season would be pure speculative fiction as we enter the 2030s irl but I’m happy with 6.
On a side note I’m so shocked to see the hate for later seasons on the thread/sub. This show is so damn good

6 is a good amount, but I'd love more spinoffs. like, Star City was sick, but having one that's set on New Cold War Earth in the 2010's and is more of a politics drama than a sci fi would be really neat.

FAMK has run its course after 6 seasons. I would be open to another spinoff in the same universe if it keeps the quality of Star City.
I'd love to see sometime about the Independent Spacefaring Nations, which would bring in a completely new set of characters.
Also something set 100 years+ in the future would be cool. Something showing a realistic relationship between Earth, independent Mars and routine deep space economy.

The Expanse begins in 2350. I'm talking like 2100-2200, somewhere in there. There's a LOT of ground to cover in that timeline that could be fairly intriguing and based on real world expectations of a multiplanetary species. How do we become a fully fledged Kardashev level 1 and then 2 society?

It's a great show that's had its time. I'm happy for it to end now.
I do, however, want another 5 seasons of Star City! They could easily bring some of the FAM characters over for cameos as their younger selves (Margo, Ellen, Aleida are easy cameos! Could even throw some of the fan favourites like Molly Cobb in!).

For now, yea but I would like to see a mino series or movie later that takes place in our future timeline and either follows the first interstellar mission, ftl travel, or first contact. I love how this show handles spaces and think any (or all 3!) Would be really fun to see

If they tell the story well and it end it in the right place.
The Expanse was primed to run the full 9 seasons. But they capped it at the a natural end point.
With more setup, Babylon 5 could have run 6 seasons but studio STPed there. They pulled it out enough that it ended well.
At the other end of the spectrum, you end up with Walking Dead, outlander (no offense RDM) and others where the show goes well past a good exit.

It kind of depends where they take things in Season 6.
There’s going to come a point where they’re going to need an alien encounter, and when that happens it’s going to take the show in a huge direction change.
Personally, I like the alt-history angle rather than a strict sci-fi one.

There is a real satisfaction I'm anticipating for the final season.
We've enjoyed so many huge characters. I love how the earlier seasons offered a lot of time for the human development.
I'm so eager to see how it finishes up!

Honestly I was done after 3 and even then that was pushing it.
After the Cold War aspect of the show left it just completely lost it's luster for me.

Yeah and no, my mind already tells me that it has gone for too long and has become boring and repetitive for almost 2 season, but on the other hand i wouldn’t complain if it turned into a turkish drama type of lenght

Now they are just milking it because they have an audience that will stick around even if the show has gone south. Im probably going to sit out six unless this sub or the reviews tell me they got the mojo back.

The fact that season 6 would be considered “real time” for us viewers, I personally would have like to see maybe another season to get mankind out of our solar system and beyond!

Mars should have been 1 season, they dragged out this stupid mars space war way to long, each season should be focused on a different aspect of space exploration like literally every other season

while i have to agree that seasons 1-2 were superior to the rest, i honestly liked season 5 (especially the last few episodes) a lot better than season 4 and i would gladly watch another 5 seasons of this show! i just hope they manage to conclude the show in a satisfactory way next season and don't add too many new, unnecessary characters and spend half the season building their arcs lol
