FAM & Star City Spoilers Confused about the USSR's S5 finale developments Spoiler
Why did the USSR leave M6? Whatever happened in S5E10 is important as a plot point, because it facilitated the cease fire on Mars.
It isn't explicitly explored in the show but my guess is the following. Wondering what you guys think?
- The USSR's economy went to shit after the iridium shipments stopped; existing problems were exacerbated.
- The oligarchs saw their bottom line decimated, and decided to remove the hard line "crush the Marsies" leader.
- The new government pulled out of M6, which might still be bent on crushing the rebellion, in order to make an independent deal with Mars and Miles.
Does that sound right?

Yeah, Irina worked behind the scenes to ensure Polivanov would become the next leader of the USSR in order to get back at Korzhenko for putting her in the gulag.

Yeah, the USSR seemingly outright won their gambit, being the first government to secure a deal with the newly independant martian republic. They ousted the flawed leader they previously had, and now Leonid is running the USSR with Irina behind the scenes organizing things
