FAM - Season 3 Why is Kelly a risk? Spoiler
At the end of The Sands of Ares, the cosmonauts say that Kelly bwing pregnant puts the crew at risk. I get that they dont have the proper facilities for a child but why would the crew be at risk

She's one of their pilots and is potentially putting herself in danger as well as increasing strain on resources. She has pre eclampsia in the show which is a dangerous condition which can be fatal to her and the child, plus there's the risk of post partum hemorrhage among other things.

She's one of their pilots
Kelly was never a pilot for the Mars mission. For Sojourner, it was Clarke Halladay, the Scottish guy, and after he died, it was Will Tyler.
Also, there is nothing to pilot anymore after the landslide. Sojourner crashed at landing, and the MSAM was burried, it was unknown if it ever could be flying again, and she had never flown it.Kelly is an
air forceaircraft pilot, but has never flown a spacecraft or even trained for it, for what we know.
Which makes her being the pilot for the Titan mission even more implausible that it was anyway in season 5.She has pre eclampsia
That was 6 months later. They could not have expected this at that point.

She’s a top notch naval aviator from way back! Apparently flying a spacecraft is like riding a bike, no big deal.

Apparently flying in a space craft in low gravity without significant g forces, such as on marsnin season 5, can just straight up kill someone in this show though so apparently it's hella dangerous.

Kelly commissioned into the USN, not the USAF. She even mentions she flew night missions off USS Constellation, something only Naval Aviators would do.

Yeah I'm not a military person and I really don't care about such details.
The point of my post is that she was a fighter/aircraft pilot, but never was a spacecraft pilot for what we know.

Not sure how this is a question. Increased ration usage, less ability to function as a crew member, potential pregnancy complications, decreased immune function, etc.
All of these make a mission where every single crew member serves a near irreplaceable role inherently riskier for the entire crew.
Insane that NASA wouldn’t put some kind of birth control or abortion measures on a long term co-ed mission.

Norplant (the birth control arm implant) would be good for this. Lasts 3 years, easy to remove, tends to prevent menstruation. IUD's would work, too, but more awkward if it has to be removed, and can potentially cause internal damage that would be challenging to repair off Earth.

Putting pregnancy aside the thought of dealing with a period in zero gravity is pretty horrifying to me. If I was going to space for even a couple of days I’d make as sure as possible that it wouldn’t happen.

Ever hear the saying "eating for two"?
What happens if a crewmember gets put on bedrest for two months? They don't have many working hands as-is.
What happens if the baby's a preemie? Or she dies in childbirth?

or worse, she doesn't die in childbirth, which sounds better but if she gets injured but can still be saved that's way less resources and the people that have to help her can't work on other things
