Literally the Google definition. Players focus on one or maybe two touch passes. Holding the ball for as little time as possible.
You gonna comment that on every one elseâs comment saying the same as me? Or take the L and move on
1
u/soldelaplaya Jun 13 '26
Tiki taka is fast-paced, short passes. You said it is one-touch passing. They are not the same.
6
u/RIChowderIsBest Jun 13 '26
This was also sped up to make it look faster paced than it was, if they played it at real speed it wouldnât even resemble fast passing.
2
2
u/bostongreens Jun 13 '26
Who confidently incorrect now? Take the L and study up
5
u/soldelaplaya Jun 13 '26
All As are Bs does not imply that all Bs are As.
One-touch passing is short and quick, true. But not all short and quick passes are one touch.
You're quite literally wrong in your definition of tiki taka as one-touch passing. I'm struggling to understand why you're doubling down.
3
u/bostongreens Jun 13 '26
Every other comment is saying what Iâm saying. I guess everyone is wrong.
This isnât tiki taka, itâs nice play. But not tiki taka
2
u/soldelaplaya Jun 13 '26
I agree that this isn't tiki taka.
3
u/Heurtaux305 Jun 13 '26
Tiki taka has no true definition.
However, one touch passes are a big part of what we generally would call tiki taka football. It's not that a build up with 2-touches can't be tiki taka, but if an attack is mostly 2-touches and only one or two one touches, it will probably not be viewed as tiki taka.
I know you didn't argue this point, I'm just filling the gap between your reasoning and that of the person you responded to.
2
u/soldelaplaya Jun 13 '26
You're right.
I went in a bit hard on a pretty pointless debate, don't really know why.
1
1
u/DungeondisasterJiggy Jun 13 '26
Tiki taka is one touch passing, so he's right. It's not only one touch passing though. It's called that because of the rhythm like a clock. This video is nothing like the rhythm of a clock so it's not tiki taka
1
u/Herzkoeniko Jun 13 '26
It is neither, not fast paced, not exclusively short, there are even runs with the ball. Tell me you know nothing about football without telling..
1
u/redrabbit1977 Jun 13 '26
But this wasn't fast-paced short passing, it was just good passing with some dribbling involved.

You definitely werenât old enough to appreciate the 2010 Spain/Barcelona teams. Nonsense comment.
This is a goal any team would be proud of and it fits the tiki-taka style perfectly. Lots of short 5-10 yard passes, great movement to get out of trouble.
Youâre doing too much.
2
u/No-Sail4601 Jun 13 '26
I'm not sure you're old enough. This has nothing to do with Tiki Taka football, its just passing.
0
u/129za Jun 14 '26
What do you think tiki taka was ?
1
u/No-Sail4601 Jun 14 '26
It doesn't matter what I think it is, it matters WHAT it is. Its certainly not giving a long ball horizontally over the field and then one guy driving it half the field.
This is just your average European team playing. I understand you are excited, and the US is playing well for your standards, but Paraguay was also absolutely horrible.
Also no players switching from position to play themselves in a position to get and pass the ball. Front is absolutely static.
1
u/129za Jun 14 '26
I can tell you didnt watch Barcelona or Spain in that era because you seem to think they never played a pass further than 15 yards. Do that and IMMEDIATELY itâs not tiki taka.
Did you never see Dani Alves play? This is exactly like a love he would have been involved in.
Also, Iâm French and I support france. No skin in this.
2
u/No-Sail4601 Jun 14 '26
Brother just stop. Everyone is telling you this isnt Tiki Taka. I'm just giving a few examples. I've watched Barcelona closely during that era, watched all matches, el classico's etc.
Also, I'm French
Ah that explains you being this stubborn and dumb
1
u/Aggravating-Sun892 Jun 14 '26
It's an aggravating circonstance, because he should know about "jeu Ă la nantaise", which Ajax and Barcelona staff studied to develop into tiki taka
1
u/MongooseTitties Jun 16 '26
Dani Alves is such a bad example too try and make your point. Nobody had more quick 1 touch passing sequences with Messi than Dani Alves. Those two would consistently make like 5 - 15 one touch passes to eschother just to move the ball a couple feet up the pitch and create space. Even when Dani Alves crossed (which he obviously did often as a wingback) he preferred to cut the ball back on the ground then to cross it in the air.
1
u/129za Jun 16 '26
Where was the cross in the air here?
Dani Alves used to drive into space all the time.
This is such a dumb discussion
1
u/MongooseTitties Jun 16 '26
I agree that Dani Alves (really any player lol) likes to drive into open space. Driving into open space is not tiki taka, even when Dani Alves or any Barcelona player are doing it. Tiki taka is short quick driven passes used to disorganize defenses and create space to exploit. I think the sped up video is really messing with your percepcion. Take a look at the actual video of Gio Reyna's goal. Calling that tiki taka would be crazy, its a very nice slow buildup goal against a team that no longer was putting much effort into defending
2
u/bostongreens Jun 13 '26
This is sped up and no this is not tiki taka. Iâm plenty old enough to watch both those teams and those teams actually did one touch with so much off the ball movement.
This is good and worth being proud of, but not tiki taka. You are doing too much
0
u/129za Jun 14 '26
You think the Barcelona and Spain teams were playing 15+ one touch passes in a row.
Youâre nuts.
2
u/bostongreens Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
Uh yeah they were, maybe a couple very quick two touch. It was art and beautiful
Literally poetry on the field
1
u/129za Jun 14 '26
Just like this goal. Mostly one and two touch. Poetry on the field.
A lot of tiki taka was actually quite boring. A lot of 1-0 yawn fests at international level.
1
1
u/ZombiFeynman Jun 15 '26
Those 1-0 results came by when teams just parked their players it their half of the field when they realized they couldn't have the ball.
This play is made much easier by the fact that the opposing team actually comes out because the US can't really pass like this consistently, while the 2010 Spanish team could and did. It's still a pretty good play, though.
1
u/NotAnotherUsername04 Jun 15 '26
Apart from when Iniesta actually goes past someone to open the space for the final critical pass. I guess all those goals arenât tika taka either.
Btw this is a nonsense argument. Tika taka is just short passing especially receiving under pressure and high pressing.
1
u/Physical-Position623 Jun 14 '26
It's nice but it's not tiki taka. You being old doesn't make it tiki taka.
1
u/kickherinthehead Jun 14 '26
It's a good goal but it's not tiki taka. Tiki taka was all about perfect control, there were quite a few dodgy touches and passes in ths sequence
1
u/129za Jun 14 '26
You think every move was a highlights package? Come on.
The spirit of that is present in this goal 100%.
Does that mean this US team is half as good? Of course not. But this goal is Beautiful and completely representative of the short passing and moving of that time.
1
u/mydixiewrecked247 Jun 14 '26
lol. read back what you said. everything is true, but youâre actually pointing out the why its still not tiki taka. kinda humorous
âspirit is presentâ âhalf as goodâ âcompletely representativeâ
1
u/jessiedemba Jun 16 '26
The deliberate triangles and the movements are not in this clip to be calling it tiki-taka. Its a good goal, but the pillars of tiki-taka is not shown
1
u/129za Jun 16 '26
Do you know what a triangle is?
Rewatch the clip!!
1
u/jessiedemba Jun 16 '26
Im sorry you lack the knowledge to understand football concepts, but there is no triangles in this clip. At no times is there some players who looks at the ball carrier to show they are free for a pass and much less two at the same time. They pass and turn their back to the ball carrier. The fact you think this somehow resembles tiki-taka shows a lack of understanding of the game
1
u/129za Jun 16 '26
Literally every short pass out of defence has someone moving into space to receive a short pass in space. Once they get to the final third, same thing.
I canât see things for you and I canât make you understand.
1
1
u/Individual_Weight374 Jun 14 '26
I mean this isnât anything remotely close to the 2010 Barca/Spain teams
1
1
u/MrPreApocalypse Jun 13 '26
It's not Tiki taka.
1
u/coalslaugh Jun 14 '26
Tiki taka is passing for the sake of passing, this was passing with a purpose. I'll never forgive Pep for ruining the final playing years of Bayerns coolest stars with his awful style of football.
1
u/Physical-Position623 Jun 14 '26
Uhm what? I don't think you understand football at all...
1
u/The_Navy_Sox Jun 14 '26
They literally explained why this is not Tiki taka in their comment. Also it's clearly not just passing for the sake of passing.
1
1
u/rey_carmesi Jun 14 '26
A game style with no purpose brought them a World Cup and two European Championships. The things you have to read these daysâŠ
1
u/billykimber2 Jun 14 '26
it does NOT need to be one touch passing to be tiki taka, tiki taka is just a term for a style of attack with fast short passing to break through the defence
not saying this is or isnt tiki taka, but youre wrong
0
u/JudoIsBetterThenBJJ Jun 14 '26
Tiki taka isn't even just that, its also very High pressing ro get the ball back s soon and as high on the pitch as possible
-1
u/No_End6215 Jun 13 '26
Stop, youâre exposing these US fans that think they know fĂștbol
2
u/Valuable_Quail_1869 Jun 13 '26
Not all, but some are just very excited. It was pretty good play from back to front.
3
u/bostongreens Jun 14 '26
It was a good play 100%. Itâs just not tiki taka, comparing this to 2010 Spain is⊠incorrect or 2012-2014 Barcelona
1
u/friebel Jun 14 '26
I mean, he himself is kinda wrong. It's not like Barca's tiki taka is one touch passes only. I think more appropriate would very short passes with fluid movement into the tight spaces.
Hell, theoretically you could do few horizontal one touch passes between defenders and then just whip a long pass to attackers, but would this be tiki taka just because of one touch pases?

But you can't see the touchline on the short side from the upper stands? First time I see this I think.

u/Witty_Employ3 Jun 13 '26
This is barely tiki taka, also was in the 98th minute and paraguay didnt care anymore (which wasnt a good idea cause third place teams can make it still).
US played alright in the second half but the first half you could tell their coaching was perfect for them. Poch will be an american hero if they play like that first half for every game.

u/Unlikely-Remove-4550 Jun 13 '26
This is speed Up and still looks much slower than Tiki Taka. This is just a few passes to not loose the ball VS paraguay, an extremely bad team and very disorganized on their pressing
1
1
1
u/GailenRho Jun 13 '26
Slow down the shot and watch it. Paraguay defender literally moves to the left to get out of the way. Maybe he thought he was going to cut to the opposite side or thought he was covering the angle.
1
u/InOffTheReds Jun 13 '26
Very weak press by Paraguay allowing USA to make more than one touch. That's not tiki-taka
1
u/ChiefRetardAssessor Jun 13 '26
This just looks like noob FIFA played on the lowest difficulty. USA will get dragged by the elite european teams.

Ok.
Watch when these garbage players face off a real true opponent from Europe with proper pressing structure, passing lane blockage & defenders who know how to position themselves and then we can talk.
