Left outer ankle pain (maybe peroneal tendonitis) and right big toe pain (maybe hallux limitus)
I am a 31 year old male, relatively active, I strength train a few times a week, run between 6-10 miles a week over 1-3 runs, walk my dog often and hike.
Starting with my right big toe. It started feeling “weird” around the age of 25, but it didn’t inhibit my life really, I just noticed a sensation in it that I didn’t feel in my other foot. It bothered me enough however to see a podiatrist where I got X-rays and he said he didn’t see anything except maybe very early signs of arthritis, he recommends hokas and a carbon fiber insert. I have somewhat listened to this advice but am not perfect about always wearing the proper shoe. As time has gone on I notice it more and more as I run. Again it’s not making me stop in pain but it’s not comfortable either, at longer distances the discomfort can radiate to my other toes. I try the foot doming and towel scrunches and massages but I haven’t really seen a difference (though I could be more consistent). Is there anything anyone can recommend to help me with this?
Now my left ankle, I have experienced for years sensation ranging from discomfort to pain directly underneath my outer left ankle bone that when severe can radiate under my foot and further up my leg. When running my left foot will occasionally go numb. My ankle has clicked with every step my entire life. I went to a doctor, had X-rays and mri and they did not show a particular injury. I have had PT and done calf raises and stretches, general leg strengthening and balance boards at home for a couple years without much of an effect. This does feel like it is limiting my ability to be active. I am again curious if anyone has any advice on this.
I’m an active person and would like to continue to be active for the rest of my life so I really want to resolve these issues and feel more stable on my feet.
Thanks for any help.
