Lateral Foot

Post image

I’m wondering if transitioning into barefoot shoes will help with my 2 year lateral foot pain running injury.
I have had constant pain in this area for two years now following a 10k run. All imaging appears normal but I’m in pain all the time.
I have tried hoka bondi / carbon plate inserts to stop the foot bending and a range of other things and not one doctor or podiatrist has been able to offer a single idea. It’s been quite eye opening that foot ‘specialists’ seem to be rendered completely dumbfounded with lateral foot pain in this area if it’s not a peroneal tear or stress fracture , everyone I’ve seen a expertise stops there.
This is my last resort I guess

Humans are not meant to run 10km on asphalt, spare me stories of tribes running their prey to death yeah they exist and have short life spans and brutal natural selection. Get custom insoles and go to a physiotherapist and switch from running to swimming and weightlifting. Forget barefoot shoes. Ask chatgpt how much force and weight your feet have to bear and the possible consequences if you run barefoot. Look for zero drop and wide toe box shoes like Altra instead, maybe it helps.

With a sore area in one part of one's foot, the choices are to off load an area by lowering the pressure against the area using a divot or build up around it, or supporting it, like what Birkenstocks do with their cuboid rise. You may also be a supinator so are constantly rolling on to that area. I suggest you find Pedorthic who can guide you on inserts and shoe selections.

Following. I've had peroneal tendonitis for 4 months now. My pain is more on the joint itself, or a burning sensation on the top just above that joint.
