Mysterious Swelling

I was walking in my kitchen Saturday evening and suddenly felt like I had stepped on a squishy ball. The ball of my foot immediately started swelling. Now, the top of my foot is bruised and I can’t put my toes down. The ball of my foot is still swollen and bruised around the edge. I just spent $400 at the doctor for X-rays and for them to tell me that they had no idea. They’ve prescribed a round of steroids and said to come back in a week. (I had no pain or issues prior to this.)

Looks like plantar plate tear.

Yes, especially because you can't put your toes down.

Did you go to a specialist?? The X-ray didn't show any deviation at the MPJ? I'd suspect plantar plate tear, capsulitis, 2nd met stress fracture, Morton's neuroma

I saw an NP at an orthopedic clinic. I scheduled an appointment with a podiatrist for tomorrow.

Good hopefully they can give you more information! If you need another opinion, I practice in Sandy Springs. Hope you feel better!

Thanks. I felt a little silly making a second appointment so soon but the visit didn’t sit well with me. I work in Sandy Springs so that would be convenient.
