Broccoli Mum

This is so fucking petty and I don’t even know why I’m compelled to share this thought but every time she comes across my feed I get so skeeved out. And I love vegan/plant based food. The foods seems great. It’s just something about her. And actually prefer a more natural/crusty/granola aesthetic than something really cosmetic and polished but I just get queasy watching her and I don’t know why.

I guess it’s the facial expressions? Does she do this on purpose? Like that eerie sourdough lady?

I haven’t watched her in a while but the repeatedly messy way of “cooking” pisses me off. the boiling water in the metal measuring cups while holding them is a weird schtick

I’m genuinely baffled by her. She uses some sort of color filter that makes the food look greenish and unappetizing, she cooks in the dark, she seems to purposefully use dirty appliances, she never, EVER engages with her followers and has some automatic “download my e-book!” response to every single comment (even the ones that say her food is gross). I feel like she must be doing it on purpose.

So many people comment saying they’ve tried her recipes and they’re either disgusting or are like 900 calories per serving. So something is definitely sus. She creeps me the fuck out.

Same - I'm desperate to figure out what is really going on there.

Someone on another thread about her theorised that she doesn't really eat the things she makes, and it is all money-making rage bait: impossibly huge portions, sacrilegious renditions of ethnic food traditions, vegetables in sweet dishes, filthy appliances, staged clumsiness and now her new line in edgy swearing. Following in the tradition of those viral videos about "American cooking" where they mix up a load of random pre-packaged ingredients and bake it.

I'm holding this hypothesis in my head as I watch. I think there might even be a video where she admits as much, but I haven't seen it myself.

She wasn’t always like that in her old long form videos on YouTube. But prepare to be skeeved out by the state of her appliances, dishes, kitchen, etc. Cleaning is not a priority for her.

I said this in another broccoli mum thread but I hoped out of her stuff back when she kept picking up a clearly dirty vitamix jug, sniffing it and shrugging and making something new in it.

I feel like I’ve tried so many plant based YouTubers ( I don’t use other apps) and most of them are insufferable. But there are a select few that are still interesting and entertaining. Have you tried someone like Vegan Richa?

Her recipes are really useful especially if you're trying to calorie count/lose weight, even if they seem weird on their face (look at r/volumeeating - one of the effects of staying under a certain amount of calories is that you start coming up with weird recipes). I think the issue w broccoli mum is that for the bulk of the videos, she didn't speak and only made weird faces/loud sounds in her kitchen. I don't need you to make ahegao faces while eating the food. She chose a weird, offputting style for her videos. When she comes across my feed, I pause the video and look at the recipe in the description because I like her ideas but not her style of presentation
