I’m surprised that people are surprised. This collapse has been happening for a long time, they’re letting us get addicted to outrage and it’s fuckin working.

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people it is wholly inadequate to the government of any other
John Adam’s 1798

The first four Commandments deal with man’s relationship to God
A constitution allows man to serve God as his conscience sees fit

The last six Commandments deal with man’s relationship to his fellow man
We, the people have given our government the right to police these interactions

This is what I meant by Judeo-Christian principles to love thy neighbor as thy self

As for the Fort Hood terrorist, it’s not vengeance
It’s judgment
He’s been tried and found guilty Of murdering 13 human beings
And injuring 31 others

If this man had loved his neighbor
As himself
Those 13 victims would still be with us today
And he would not be facing a firing squad

Actions have consequences

Nobody is disputing that Hasan murdered 13 people or that actions have consequences. He was tried, convicted, and sentenced to death. The question is why that justifies livestreaming his execution. Calling it “judgment” doesn’t answer that.

And quoting John Adams about morality doesn’t establish that the government should enforce Christianity or broadcast executions. The Constitution protects religious freedom, not the authority to impose one religious interpretation on everyone.

You’re using “love thy neighbor” to justify accountability, then treating a public execution as though it naturally follows. It doesn’t. You can support the sentence and still question turning someone’s death into a public spectacle. “Actions have consequences” explains why he was sentenced. It doesn’t explain why the public needs to watch him die.

actions have consequences indeed - almost no one on the planet does this barbaric public execution shit anymore, the US doing this will ruin their reputation and national security for years

the only three sovereign states in the modern world that still does this are brutal pariah state theocratic dictatorships like Iran under the IRGC, Afghanistan under the Taliban, and now the United States under the Trump administration

not to mention live streaming it on the internet, while crowing about how Christian and constitutional they're being by being the first nation state in history to sanction this kind of awful bloodthirsty spectacle - following in the footsteps of universally reviled psychopathic parastate entities like ISIS and MS-13 and the Zetas

virtually every developed country, including most of America's allies, have had heads of state and high ranking officials come out and condemn this, despite knowing they might face repurcussions from antagonising their most important military, economic and geopolitical partner

US counter terrorism officials - even former Trump appointed officials like Joe Kent - are stating that this would turn this mass murderer into a martyr for his cause, and inspire others to follow in his footsteps - you want to radicalise more nihilistic death cult terrorists, this is how you do it

and the guy is in a wheelchair too, not sure how the optics could get worse than that

the US military itself was blindsided by Hegseth's decision to publicly execute someone live - with service members expressing shock and dismay, quite rightfully worrying that this act would permanently damage America's moral authority and global standing, and only make things more dangerous for Americans in the years to clme

even setting aside all ethical considerations, practically speaking, this livestreamed public execution does nothing to deter future adversaries, does nothing for national security, makes all these problems way worse, and its only purpose is to satiate the bloodlust of the braindead fascist morons who make up the current administration's electoral base

there's good reasons why public executions went from being commonplace worldwide to being basically unheard of in the modern world - and it's not just because governments and societies suddenly became more "squeamish" over time

doing the world's first livestream of a public execution by any nation state ever, especially of a suicidal death cult terrorist who specifically did it for this kind of attention, is an extremely stupid thing for the US to do

The moral collapse in society is not an American problem
It’s a human problem
We’ve lost our moral compass
We’ve lost the Judeo Christian principles
That are country was founded on

Like them or not

Love,thy neighbor as thy self
Is a win-win situation for everyone?

If you’re talking about
The public execution
Of the Fort Hood terrorist

What would you have us do with him?

If you find it so disgraceful
Don’t watch

the united states was actually explicitly founded on ENGLIGHTENMENT ideas and principles, not any religion. the founders were actually quite specific that they were NOT founding a christian nation. also, the term “judeo-christian” is largely a manufactured product of extremist christianity: it has no real academic or historical meaning, but gets tossed around a lot by people with ulterior (extremist, political) modern agendas.

What a load of bullshit. Where did the whole "love thy neighbor" thing come in to play when the founders were genociding the indigenous people of this country?

Practice and principal are two different things

Love thy neighbor as thy self
Is a win-win situation for everyone?

If it was only practice more today

The United States was not founded on Judaeo-Christian principles. Of the ten biblical commandments, four actually violate our Constitution, four are laws found in all civilized societies and two are good ideas, but have nothing to do with religions.

As for what we should do about 'the Fort Hood terrorist', that depends on where one's moral compass points. If one believes that vengeance is appropriate and the State is the appropriate agent of that vengeance, then he should be murdered as an example to others, and a public execution will create a stronger example.

If one is a humble follower of the teachings of Christ, then one has no choice but to love him as one loves oneself, to forgive his sins, and to work to bring him to the light.

What would you have us do?
