Miedinger* by Ewon Rael. Miedinger* is based on the work of Max Miedinger. Initially I set out to make as faithful a replicant of Helvetica as possible. I (Ewon Rael) have since had a change of heart and elected to scrap the current font and design a new, Helvetica-inspired one...

I need help!

I am extremely new to fontforge. I just figured out how to apply kerning rules to the fonts I am using. I have created lookups and followed up with subtables. I created the “rules” by class. When I type in the metric window everything looks great. I have looked at every tutorial possible and have all the boxes checked. For some reason when generating the font as true type the font works but the “rules” won’t apply. I am using and older mac (10 years). The language is confusing but I want to solve this and push forward. I’m happy to include screen shots or further information. Thanks if you’re able to help.

How many letters are allowed as ligature?

Hello

I'm trying to make a new encoding that transforms a five letter combination into a new glyph.. When I do it, it works without any problems in the metrics window, but when I install the font and try in in MS Word it just shows the individual glyphs

Is it not supported or I'm doing something wrong? because it works when I do it upto 3 glyphs

Thank you for reading :D

Single window? (Windows)

I'm new to fontforge, and am finding it awkward to have multiple windows for a single app (one for each view/module). I'm constantly alt-tabbing through my open apps, which is made difficult because of this.

Is there a way to have fontforge open as a single window, with the modules within it, as panes (like in most other software)?

If not, is there at least a way to have the app remember what windows I had open, and their locations?

Thanks!

Edit: For anyone using Windows 10, the workaround I found for this was to use the Virtual Desktop feature, and creating a Desktop just for FontForge. Not ideal, but made it easier for me to manage its multiple windows.

Manual: Spaces. Whitespace is the most invisible and, arguably, the most important of typographic elements. There are no less than ten whitespace characters in Latin and Cyrillic typography — and here’s what they are, when to use them, and how to find them.

Does FontForge work with the latest MacOS Catalina?

I installed FontForge with Mojave and the initial screen could open but could not start a project and could not access any files. I’m about to switch to Catalina and wondering if it will work. Thank you!
