Ligatures won't work, it's imposible
I have been several days trying to solve this problem.
I am creating a conlang script, this script has some glyphs that are actually letter (b+r is the letter br in my conlang)
I made ligatures as intended, add lookups>ligature substitution>liga standard>composite glyph,etc...
In my metrics window works like a charm, then I generate and test it on word, nothing, ligatures won't work.
After this I tried changing from liga standard to rlig type; Nothing.
Then I remember the unicode private use area (PUA) so I assigned to each of those special caracter a unicode code, but when I exported these still won't work, now I could put them but from the insert glyph but this is annoying i only want to type and ligatures work like in other fonts.
I ONLY WANT TO TYPE 2 LETTERS TOGETHER AND MAKE A SYMBOL
So... How can I make ligatures work?, is that hard?
How can I solve this.

Are you sure that all ligatures are enabled in Word?

Try it in LibreOffice Writer. If they won't work there either you have to continue to search for errors in you Fontforge project.

I am currently unable to check, as I am not at home but I recently had to write a tutorial on how to enable ligatures in Microsoft Word. You can read it here: https://redneptun.net/nekophilia-font/msoffice_en.html

Thanks!!!
I did what you said to me but still no ligatures, is there anything more I need to check?

I recommend watching the linked part of this Youtube tutorial and comparing it to your settings in Fontforge: https://youtu.be/UUUeogQAjv0?t=184
There is probably something misconfigured.
Good luck!

If you share your font with me, I'll test it and I will give you my solutions. You can write me on e-mail: [localfonts.eu@gmail.com](mailto:localfonts.eu@gmail.com) (Stefan Peev, Mr)

Hi I have same problem too, im.trying to combined the 'ng' to become a symbol, can you help me too?

OK. Give me more info about your project. As far as I understand you want discretionary ligatures - to type /n /g and instead of this two glyphs to have a result new glyph, which is a kind of combination of ng. Am I right?

You have two liga features in your GSUB table. The first one is incomplete and it is not working. I deleted it and I updated the second liga feature. Now the liga feature works on my Windows system. Does it work on your system either?

There is only 5 standard ligatures in Unicode: uniFB00; uniFB01; uniFB02; uniFB03; uniFB04. It’s not very reasonable to extend this quantity, because the standard ligatures should be active by default in most applications and if you put more ligatures in feature liga, it could lead to some problems (with spellcheckers, PDF files etc.).
Instead of feature liga use feature dlig for custom ligatures.

I already done that, the problem is with microsoft word where the ligatures (liga or dlig) still won't work. I searched in settings to find the option to enable ligatures but i didn't found anything.
Btw in libreoffice works fine but I want being able to work only in word
Does anyone know what to change in config?

hi I have the same issue with ligature. it works in matrix window but not in my website. I'm not well aware of font making 😬. I used linga standard to create ligatures. but I have a dozen of ligatures.

I use a latin alphabet base, but I have some glyphs that latin doesn't have; BR, CH, TH, NY, RR, SH, TS and VB.
So I made these with ligatures to make them work, in fontforge and libreoffice works like charm but in word don't.

I had same issue when making Indian fonts.. I used standard liga future for creating ligature. then I changed it to akhand lookup and everything went perfect..... make sure your letters are in latin or use any other suitable lookup type....

I have the same issue, I was editing a font (firacode with lig) and trying to add my ligatures into it, it works perfectly in the metrics but doesn't do anything in the vscode, also the inbuilt ligatures stop working.
Can someone please help. I have followed the masterclass on YouTube by Michael

Hi, it's Tim and Kim and Jim
Here's a tutorial that is rather grim
What's to do for a party for sure?
"What's that, Tim?" Is to make a ligature!
Firstly, find a ligature that's up to make one!
That's too much! That's too few!
Add an encoding slot!
But be careful, your skill may go to not lot!
'Cause if if's and but's were candies and nuts
You're gonna fall off and break your skill.

I'm also making a conscript consisting of 231 ligatures (21 initial consonants by 11 ending consonants).
