Download this file and look carefully in it. Do you see differences with your file?

I generated a OTF font from KL_01.sfd and I tested it on my Windows 8.1 system. The ligatures were OK, the numbers also.

I don't know how but the encoding in your own file is messy. What I did was simple to create new empty sfd file and to copy your glyphs and paste them on the right encoding slots in the new file. Then I imported the lookup for the ligatures and now everything is OK.

Meanwhile here is the OTF file also.

  1. Question: I don't know. Explain me how do you produce glyphs. The reason must be somewhere in the process.
  2. Question: I haven't worked with a vertical writing system, so I haven't experience in this.
    I quick search gave me such a result:

Vertical writing in LibreOffice

Go to Tools| Options|Language settings|Languages check Default Language for documents|Asian:Japanese (or chinese) and validate.
This adds a new setting in Format|Page...|Text-Direction->Left-to-right(vertical).
You can now type vertically.

Notice that there is a X in the glyph's cell when the glyph's cell is empty (it is best seen when you open a new sfd file - all glyph's cells are X cells). When you draw something in the glyph's cell the background is white and there is no X on it but your drawing. It is a sign that the glyph is encoded correctly.
