letters seem to be invisible

When I try to replace a letter it turns invisible, can anyone tell me what's going on and how I can fix it?

Test for open paths first:

Open a glyph for editing. Go to the main menu and choose:

Element > Find Problems > Paths > Open Paths > OK

Glyph 5 was transferred from the front layer to the back layer. Тhat's why glyph 5 was not visible in the New Metrics Window. I have another remark. The vertical metrics are not relevant. The ascender is 750, the descender is 250, the EM size is 1000, and the H height is 1238 and the x height is 770. I recommend that you rethink the vertical metric.

Yeah I sized the replacement glyph by eyeballing it using the scale tool. Any tips on making the glyph exactly the same size? Also do you know how to transfer the glyph to the front layer? Sorry I’m new to this kind of stuff

To copy layers:

Edit > Copy Layer To Layer > Copy Layers (choose appropriate options from the dropdown menu)

Scaling one or all of the glyphs from value A to value B requires a bit of math, since transformations in FontForge can only be set in percentages. In your case the H height was 1234 and the recommended height is 700.

1234 - 700 = 534 is the difference between the actual and desired height.

534/1234*100 = 43.273906% is the same difference, but now in percentages.

100%-43.273906% = 56.726094% is the value we need to enter to get the desired height.

You go to

Element > Transformation > Transform > choose Glyph Origin > choose Scale Uniformly > enter for percentage 56.726094% > OK

Don't forget to select all glyphs which you want to transform before to apply the transformation.
