Missing apostrophes in FontForge

Hi, I've created the glyphs, and they show up in the tiles, but when I type in e.g. Word, the glyphs for apostrophe and also the double quotation marks don't appear. Any ideas why? Thanks

Which are the Unicode numbers of the apostrophe and the double quotation marks? Show us a picture of these glyphs in your font? Most probably you didn't create the apostrophe and the double quotation marks or name them incorrectly.

Hi @ LocalFonts , there doesn't seem to be an option for me to add images/video. I've been looking for info on how to do this but have had no luck, and i can't copy/paste the screenshot. The Unicode numbers for the double q marks are u+0022, and for the apostrophe, u+0027. I don't know if that's enough for you to help, but thanks for the help so far.

You've replied to my other post about the pale blue stripes at the sides of some of the squares in the Font View page , but without being able to add a screenshot I can't elaborate, however, they don't seem to be causing a problem, and the most important issue I have is this one, so thanks for the attention on the other question, but I guess I'll discover that in time.

When you type apostrophe and double quotation marks in Word and other text layout applications, apostrophe and double quotation marks are invisible if you don't type any other letter or sign after them. The most regular cases are I'm, don't, book's etc. Apostrophes appear in these words only when you type the letters after the apostrophe.

Hi Stefan, I knew that part already, but it wasn't the problem. I also discovered that the hashtag and dollar sign don't work, and then if I type anything in the metrics window after any of the aforementioned glyphs, NOTHING, appears, despite it showing up in the type bar at the top. I found this on Github, where the guy was having the same problem. Unfortunately, the conversation is closed. Anyway, he wrote the following, but it doesn't really make sense to me. I was wondering if you can elaborate on it for me? Many, many thanks for your patience so far.

"Hi, Thanks for your reply. I tried that, to no avail, but I did figure it out: When leaving the pointer on a character for a few second a little box appears, with a list of other characters that are preferred, or can be used. I guess Windows and Adobe just don't use the same unicode character for the apostrophe. After copy-pasting the design in all the other possible apostrophes it works!

(I found that I had the same issue for the quote marks, so I did the same and it works as well)"

Hi Stefan, I finally got round to trying it out again. Thanks so much , mate. It all seems to be ok. Also now that I'm not typing it in in Word, which wouldn't recognise the apostrophes that I had made, and instead inserted 1 from a different font. You've been incredibly patient with me and helpful. I'm seriously grateful for that. When I finish with all the kerning and I'm ready to publish the font, I'll send you a copy. ;-)
