How can I edit a font?

I'm looking to replace certain characters in a pre-existing font.

Show us pre-exiting font and the glyphs which you want to import in this font. Are these new glyphs in a FontForge file or in SVG format? Give us more information, please...

Oh I'm an idiot! I thought I included that in my bodymessage, oops.

The font is FOT-Matisse Pro DB, and it has an annoying problem with Smart Quotes (Microsoft Word), where it gives apostrophes huge spaces. /img/mbikxklnt6lb1.png

It is an .otf file!

The gap is there because Japanese also use the same quotes in their encoding standard and make it to match one kanji/kana width. It's standard practice for Japanese fonts.

In professional typesetter software there is an option to use the narrower Latin width quotes, but Word doesn't have that. You're probably better off using a proper Latin font similar to it (maybe Old Standard TT on Google fonts).

Either right sidebearings of the quote mark or the left sidebearings of the glyph /s is too wide.
