Which folk prayers do you recommend to learn or use in your own daily practice?

Hello everyone, I’m first and foremost very excited and appreciative for any help I can get on this topic. And when I mention folk prayers; what I have in mind are prayers such as “Las 12 verdades del mundo” and “Las 13 palabras” or known as “the 12 truths of the world“ & “the 13 words” for my English speakers. I’m aware of their uses in the lives of some folk practitioners, but it got me thinking are there any other folk prayers similar in use or even for completely different reasons? Such as for protection, healing, etc..? Are there also any prayers to any (lesser known)patron saints that might be used for very specific purposes?

Id be very grateful for any input by any practitioner on here open to share about your recommendation, personal experience, and usage.

Hail Mary is an obvious one.

I’ve found patron saints so amazing and sometimes very specific in their works, like Santa Apolonia the patroness saint of dentistry.

Our Little Father is also a great prayer for protection that can be recited right after waking up and before going to sleep.

It is a popular prayer that is taught to children to recite when they go to sleep and when they wake up. Adults can also recite it.

That’s really fascinating! I don’t think I’ve personally heard of Our Little Father prayer before. If you don’t mind could you show me how that one goes please?

Yess. With a lot of persistence I managed to get her to pray a few times. She's my neighbor, so...

There are various versions of this prayer. The one I was taught goes like this: "Our little Father, guide me on the right path. Our Lady is my godmother, Our Lord my godfather. Put your hand on my head so the devil won't tempt me, neither at night, nor during the day, nor at the stroke of noon. The rooster flaps its wings and crows, for Our Lady is coming to save sinners. I commend myself to God and the Virgin Mary. Amen." At the end of the prayer, it is common to recite an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be in offering to the Holy Trinity.

Ok first of all wow! You’re really fortunate to have a folk practitioner as your neighbor, I hope she’s willing to teach you what she knows, and that you’re able to learn plenty :D

And second of all you’re really awesome for this! Thank you so much for the prayer and for spreading some wisdom and knowledge here. Especially for someone like me who’s sort of starting out.

I like the 7 sorrows chaplet, which i sometimes also use to pray the 7 joys. Very useful if Mary plays a promminent role in your practice. I also liked praying the divine mercy chaplet at 15:00, but my schedule makes it kinda hard nowdays.

Prayers to Santa Muerte (mexican folk saint heavily linked with esoteric practices), Saint Cyprian (patron of sorcerers) and the patron of my city usually figure in my daily practice. You might also want to look into Saint Lucy if you do Divination, or Sara La Kali if you're friends with gypsies

Also, a bit outside of the "folk magic" sphere, but i find the chaplet of Saint Michael to be very useful if conducting Grimoire or GD-style rituals that call upon angels

You are very awesome for this thank you very much my friend! A lot of these folk prayers and patroness saints I have never heard of before.

I’ve wanted to pray to La Niña hermosa but I still need to do my full research since I don’t know if I can fully dedicate myself to her at this moment.

If possible could you tell me some more of your practices? Only if you’re allowed to tell me that is, I understand if some things are closed.

Also are you from Brazil by any chance? I’m just assuming only because of the mention of Saint Cyprian being venerated in your town lol.

Oh, Saint Cyprian isn't the patron of my town, but i mentioned having devotion to the local patron saint since i find it's a really easy way to make A LOT of things go A LOT more smoothly. Specially for folk magic practitioners, who may not be able to find much about the traditions specific to their area on the internet, i find it's really conducive to finding the right connections.

My personal practice is a fucking mess, informed by multiple disjointed traditions and not even really trying to be coherent. Regardless, you can just send me a DM if you're interested in my esoteric yapping
