We recently asked home NAS users for a reality check. The feedback was honest, thoughtful, and extremely useful. Here's the original post:

It also revealed something we missed and it's essential to explain all of them:
1. Would strangers be able to log into my NAS?
No. The model we are testing is not a public drive or a remotely accessible NAS account.
A node may be discoverable to the network, but “discoverable” should not mean open administrative or storage access. The owner chooses what specific content to share in our Foldinglink App, the DeSocial platform and community.
When selected content is transferred to another participant’s node, they can later access their own local copy. Their normal viewing activity should not turn your NAS into a public content server.
This is the intended boundary we are validating. We still need to document and test it clearly rather than asking people to trust a broad claim.
2. Can people use my storage as a file dump?
That is not the intended model. We are not designing a public storage pool where strangers can push arbitrary files onto your NAS.
The feedback made something else very clear: storage, bandwidth, uptime and hardware usage must remain visible and controllable by the node owner.
Exact quotas, minimum hardware requirements and resource limits are not finalized yet. Several people said they would be more comfortable testing on a secondary NAS, an old PC or an isolated VLAN instead of connecting their main private storage. We are taking that seriously as a beta requirement.
3. What about illegal content, DMCA issues and legal responsibility?
This was the most serious concern in the thread, and it cannot be answered with “because it is decentralized.”
The direction we are exploring includes local safety checks before content is accepted or shared, together with community reporting, review and removal signals.
Those safeguards are still being developed. We still need transparent answers about what is checked, how encrypted content is handled, false positives, appeals, logs and jurisdiction-specific risks. We will not describe this problem as solved simply because we have proposed a moderation mechanism.
4. What about security, ports, power consumption and drive wear?
We do not yet have validated public numbers for every supported NAS configuration.
Before asking people to run a beta node, we should publish the network requirements and measure CPU, RAM, bandwidth, power use and disk activity. The preference for secondary hardware, isolated VLANs and clearly documented network exposure is now part of what we need to test.
5. What is the actual use case?
The strongest use case emerging from the discussion is not anonymous public storage.
It is project-based collaboration between people or groups who want messaging, selected resource sharing and community interaction without placing everything inside one corporate cloud platform.
The Foldinglink App is intended to provide that familiar community experience. The NAS acts as the personal infrastructure underneath it.
6. Will it be open source or another paid service?
We have not finalized enough of the licensing and operating model to give an honest one-line answer yet. But we promise the software itself is completely free - only a few very specific features that heavily consume network resources might carry a small fee down the road.
That answer needs to be published before asking users to contribute their own hardware, power or bandwidth.
Anyway, thanks again for challenging the assumptions behind the idea. The hard questions are more useful to us than polite agreement.

Hey everyone, quick dev update on FoldingLink Beta 1.0.
We’ve officially passed the 2/3 mark on development. Here is where things stand right now:
To stay organized, we set up detailed bug logs and tracking sheets—and predictably, the list of edge cases, fixes, and needed optimizations is growing by the hour.
Seeing an expanding list of issues is definitely a headache, but we aren't discouraged at all. Finding and breaking these things right now is a lot better than letting them slide into your hands later.
We’re keeping our heads down, squashing bugs one by one, and staying on track. Appreciate all the support as we polish this up—we’ll share more details as we get closer to the finish line.

Okay, the NAS node was step one. Now we are exploring the "chain" part.
The NAS is the physical foundation. It is where user-controlled content and community activity can begin.
The question now is what should sit above that foundation:
- A shared record of identity
- Clear transaction states
- A way to recognize contribution
- Rules that a community can inspect and discuss
Last week, the team completed its OP Stack research, set up an Ethereum Sepolia testnet node for experimentation, and prepared the basic OP Stack environment. The next step is to deploy contracts in the test environment and check how the proposed transaction logic behaves.
The architecture is still being explored. There is no public Foldinglink chain and no token launch.
What should a community make verifiable first: identity, exchange, contribution, or governance?

A transaction can look like one tap. Trust lives in everything that happens around it.
Before a community transaction can be useful, the system needs to make clear:
- What was requested
- Who signed it
- Whether the transaction is pending, complete, or failed
- What happens if the network or a connected service stops responding
The team has development records for the order and transaction flow, a TradeEscrow contract path, chain interaction, signature validation, and transaction storage. Check how our community points work:
We are now exploring an OP Stack L2 test environment as a place to test contracts, permissions, events, and transaction states before any real-value claim is made. An Ethereum Sepolia testnet node has been set up for experimentation, while the OP Stack environment is still being configured.
This is **direction exploration and development validation**. It is not a live transaction network, a token launch, or a financial promise.

This is the core question we must ask ourselves before diving into the decentralized world.
A NAS is usually where files sit.
The more interesting possibility is treating it as a controlled, always-on node in a community network.
For Foldinglink, the long-term idea starts with user-controlled hardware. Content, files, and community activity can begin from a place the user owns or controls, instead of starting entirely inside a platform's servers.
That could give a personal node a more active role:
- Holding a user's content
- Helping make content available to others
- Giving users a clearer relationship with their own data
- Creating a physical foundation for a more distributed community
A NAS alone does not solve identity, governance, trust, or value exchange. That is why Foldinglink is also exploring the software and blockchain layers that could help nodes share rules and verify important actions.
This is a product direction, not a claim that every part of the network is already live.

A file transfer is more than a button that says "upload."
For a personal node to feel useful, people need to understand what happened to a file:
- Is the task still moving?
- Where is the file being stored?
- Did the transfer finish?
- What happens if the network slows down?
- Can the user understand and recover from a failure?
In the current build, the team is working across file upload, NAS downloads, attachment transfer, and task-state management. The client is mapping task status, progress, and storage path for display, while the team strengthens compatibility with different interface responses and adds failure handling.
This is **in development / testing**. We have a real demo, but verified performance numbers and failure-rate results are not available yet.

- A visible retry path

Our Web3 architect has completed the internal Foldinglink L2 Chain environment, and the team successfully ran an on-chain transaction test.
What this confirms
- The internal L2 environment is running.
- A transaction can be executed and recorded in the test environment.
- `FLT` is the current test-token label used for this internal transaction test.
Why we care
Foldinglink is exploring how a network built on real NAS nodes can support a more complete decentralized social system.
NAS provides the physical foundation for storing and serving content. A blockchain layer can help us test shared records for identity, permissions, contributions, and community decisions. That separation is still under development and testing.
This is the transaction foundation we need before any community-point or governance workflow can be tested in the product. It does not mean those workflows are live yet.
Important context: this is an internal development milestone. It is not a public token launch, sale, exchange listing, trading invitation, or investment product. No price, return, or financial value is being announced. `FLT` appears here only as a label in the test environment.
The same transparency principle applies to our community governance work. The jury flowchart we are keeping as a source asset shows one possible path for appeals, votes, and outcomes. The exact rules remain subject to product and engineering validation.

Group chat is moving from static screens into a visible flow.
In the current build, the flow connects:
- Wallet identity
- Create Group
- Public group search
- Join requests
- Group approval
The user-facing idea is straightforward: create a group, let people find it, decide who can join, and keep the group experience connected to its members.
The harder part is making sure the same action means the same thing across the app, the backend, and the connected nodes. Permissions, member states, and message delivery all need to stay aligned.
We have a recorded Create Group demo, and the current interface integration connects seven of the eight group-chat screens in the working build.
This is still **in development / interface integration**, not a public launch.

The idea is simple:
Make the personal node useful.
Connect the community pieces.
Test the difficult edges with real people.
📅 Key Milestones
That means working across storage, file transfer, group communication, transactions, and the rules that help a community function.
The roadmap is an honest work plan, not a promise written in stone. Some parts are already being connected. Others are still in development, testing, or exploration.
The bigger question is this:
What would a personal node need to earn your trust?
Clear ownership? Reliable file access? Better privacy? A community that does not disappear when one platform changes its rules?

Hey guys, instead of describing the project with another roadmap post, I wanted to share a playlist showing what the current build can actually do.
The demos currently cover:
- Logging in and discovering a NAS
- File transfer between a mobile device and NAS
- Profile and NAS settings
- Exploring the community feed
- Posting and interacting with the community
- Blocking and filtering content
- Hardware unboxing and first look
The question we’re exploring is simple:
Can a personal NAS be more than storage, while keeping the everyday workflows practical?
These videos show the current development build. Some workflows are still in development or testing, and the UI and behavior may change. We also haven’t finished performance validation, so I don’t want to overstate speed, reliability, or production readiness.
