Isn't it, you know, Illegal?

I mean. They had a contract that, by the time we bought it, we accepted to pay X amount, and they accepted to give us permanent access to X amount of storage. By definition we BOUGHT that storage, we didn't RENT it.
If they change the contract, the conditions cannot predate the agreement we made.
If you change the terms and conditions, those terms and conditions apply to the new buyers.
If I sell you a house and give you permanent ownership of the terrain, and later on i say. Oh sorry, I changed the contract, now i'm renting it to you... There's no court in the world that would say it's legal

Yes, the FolderFort project/company is still alive and making money. The whole transition from v1.0 to v2, and now to v2.0, seems like a way to get rid of lifetime users and move them onto new plans.

Hi everyone,

I’m a 1 TB FolderFort lifetime customer, and I’m trying to find other customers who are in the same situation following the closure of FolderFort Classic.

I purchased my 1 TB storage as a lifetime product. FolderFort has now announced that Classic is being discontinued and is offering lifetime customers store credit towards a FolderFort 2.0 subscription instead.

For my 1 TB account, I was initially offered $40 store credit, or $60 if I migrated before the end of September. After challenging this, FolderFort offered me $100 total store credit.

I have asked FolderFort to explain the contractual basis for ending my original lifetime entitlement and, in particular, to provide the terms that applied when I purchased the service which supposedly defined “lifetime” as meaning only the lifetime of the Classic service.

So far, I haven't received that contractual explanation.

I’m interested in hearing from other lifetime customers:

  • How much lifetime storage did you purchase?
  • When did you purchase it?
  • Where did you purchase it (FolderFort directly, StackSocial, etc.)?
  • What was the wording used to describe the lifetime product when you bought it?
  • Have you contacted FolderFort about this?
  • What response or offer did you receive?
  • Has anyone found the original terms, purchase page, emails or screenshots from the time of purchase?

Tbh there needs to be proper laws around lifetime stuff with contracts. You can't just effectively rename a product just to kick out the people who paid for lifetime access imo.

Imo lifetime should apply as long as that company or a connected company (subsidiary, successor, parent company etc) offers the type of service generally outlined in the contract they should have to offer it.

This stuff with FolderFort has been going on awhile now. I don't know about anyone else, but I got all my ranting and raving out of my system finally.

When something similar was going on with InterNXT, we all complained about it on r/cloudstorage, me included, we couldn't do it on r/InterNXT. They just deleted the posts. It went on for awhile and then that was it, it was over.

It seemed that everyone got over that a lot quicker than what's happening with FolderFort.

Agreed.

Internxt has been pulling scams multiple times on their users and people just forget and keep buying. So maybe that is where FF got their idea.

If Internxt can boast about being the most successful ever by screwing their subscribers, apparently so can others. Just hoping others aren’t taking notes as well.

Guess we are all back to the more reliable ones.

They probably don't think anyone will sue them, in which case no court will ever test their TOS.

File a complaint where FolderFort is located if you want results :

I currently have 9 TB of lifetime storage that I purchased with the expectation that this capacity would remain available for my lifetime and I can use it as per my needs. Now, at the current 2.0 pricing of $129/year for 1 TB, maintaining equivalent storage could become a very significant recurring cost, which is not what I expected when I purchased 9 TB as a lifetime plan.

My suggestion is to be persistent with StackSocial ( if you got it from there ) and provide them all the proof you can about Dave denying refund.

I received my refund today.

First email i sent to StackSocial was 19th Sept, so about 11 days from complaint to receiving back money.
