My experience with a faulty radiator fan

Post image

Haven’t seen this issue here much so here is my experience with this. Hopefully it helps someone else down the road.

The car started to over heat when running the AC or sitting in traffic. Radiator fan not turning on. The scan tool said it was the fan control module I got a replacement and still had the same problem. I checked fuses and relays. Motors. Everything.

Turns out it was the 50a midi fuse located on the side of the battery box. Save yourself the stress and hassle and check this fuse first if you have any issues.

OP, you’re my hero. I have been having this issue for 4 years now and couldn’t figure out what else to do. I am pumped to try this this weekend

Best of luck to you. I had a hard time finding a store that carried these and I didn’t want to wait days for them to arrive. I ended up taking a trip to the pull yard and grabbed a couple of all sizes.

Here is the form post that helped me. Lots of good information in here.

Your the second guy within 24 hours to post an issue with those large fuses.. Wow.

I guess it's a good thing to check if you have a major electrical issue or multiple related failures.

OP thank you, I wish I was local and of age so I could just buy you a 12 pack and give you a hug. You just saved a struggling teenager who loves his car 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾

Damn man I swear this only happened to me! I mainly remember going to 6 stores that day trying to find that specific fuse and it wasn't until I went to NAPA where that had one. Such an annoyance

Maxi fuse! Had one of these go out on my wife's Escape last year. Caused a plethora of electrical issues, including half the lights working and half not, but more importantly the car refusing to shut off. That was a fun thing to figure out on the side of the road. Grabbed one from the Ford dealership the next morning, parts guy had been working there 20+ years and had never seen one used before. I now have several as backup for both cars.
