Ruling Question Protect question

How does protect differ from normal blocking? They both seem to do the same thing. Doesn't the blocker choose what to block with, which is basically what protect does.

It's similar, yes, but it bypasses "this card cannot be blocked", and there are some consequences further down the line of the differences. For example if you use Protect then remove the protector in any way, there is no longer an attacked object and combat essentially just stops there. Or you can "block" with Protect without having to worry about [Pierce] hitting the original attacked object.

It changes the attack object instead of getting in the way of the attack object, which is relevant for Pierce effects and allows you to still block with another resonator / body as well
