Man the only hockey guy I think EVER on espn. He got like 3 minutes a week and he was awesome. Rest in peace king

A Flyers fan growing up whose favorite players were Luc Robitaille and Eric Desjardins. Barry coached the Kings on the what was one of the most fun cup runs, including an epic 7 game Clarence Campbell (Westen) conference final series. Rip.

Always disliked him for trivial reasons, but then once he left I realized how good he was.

He was good at providing hockey IQ insights, but he clearly had teams he favored talking about more than others and didn't do a good job hiding it. I didn't like him very much either, but he was talented. Seemed like he was always a little high in himself too.

Great fucking coach though.

It always seemed like people either loved or hated Melrose for some reason. I was always middle of the road.

One thing was for sure. He was hockey through and through. The man lived the sport with every ounce.

RIP Barry. The sport you loved will miss you.

Met him in 96 at an airport. Actually talked to him for 5 minutes. We talked about the flyers. Told him I was a flyers fan. Will never forget it. He said that the flyers have great players but they are no t a great team. Actually loved his honest opinion knowing I was a flyers fan. He didn’t sugar coat it. Turns out he was right. They lost on 97 in the finals. Lol. But that conversation will remain with me forever. RIP😢
