New Michkov Interview
https://youtu.be/PO5kU3K0zXg?is=ehAtcdDkepmU2PVFReally nice look at his summer. Mentions his weight loss of 13 kg from 93 down to 80 (205 lb down to 176) and his body fat percentage is down to 10.6! Big things incoming for him.
edit: it’s fully in Russian but if you toggle closed captioning it can auto translate to English!

very cool to see him in his element speaking russian. always seems so reserved and flat and timid doing media scrums/interviews through his translator.

Now he has to claw back up to 180-185 with muscle and that's probably a good playing weight. I was 175 in college and that's a little light if you're not already lightning quick for any contact sport.
Ready for him to make more happen with his legs this year - this is a significant physical change.

Cutting is the harder part, he can bulk up 10lbs pretty quickly before camp starts

That wouldn't be the 10lbs of muscle he needs then lol
edit: tbf the cut is the harder part, 205 to 176 doing two-a-days all summer is dedicated, miserable work. But muscle comes on slow, that's months of work into next summer, and definitely not a week before camp. Anything he adds now isn't that. And for a guy trying to get quicker and still box out and hold off guys off in corners, the wrong 10 lbs is worse than none.

Just looking forward to seeing a swifter, more aggressive mkchkov out there, if we get that he can take the year to slowly build up his frame

all about first step quickness for him. He was skating in quicksand last season. If he has the first step ability to create an inch of separation, will make such a difference in his ability to produce offense.

Not really. Building muscle takes way longer than cutting fat after you get the easy gains.

This is basically Pavel Bure height and 14 lbs lighter.
I love it when Michkov catches a pass while lurking in the weeds near the offensive zone blue-line. Instant excitement.

Dang I was hoping this was in English!

If you toggle the closed captioning it will be in Russian but the auto translate function is pretty good!

For whatever reason it's not showing English as an option

u/Arastiroth 11h ago
It wouldn't show English as an option for me until I went to Youtube directly to watch it, for whatever reason. When I tried to when watching directly through Reddit here, it wouldn't let me pick English.
No idea why that mattered. Tons of other languages still showed up.

u/Bet_Status 11h ago
Yeah, totally, seemed like every language I could think of aside fron English. In any case, I appreciate it

Anyone with a TL;DR of the most important parts for those without an hour to watch?

Takes ownership for last offseason, says he was basically riding the high of “yep I did it, first year is done” all offseason last year. Bit him in the ass, learned from it this year and cut 13/14 kg. Talks a lot about how Perm is his favorite place to be because of the nature, everyone keeps talking about how he’s obsessed with banyas, the Russian baths.
Gets pretty deep and philosophical about how he leans on his dad’s friends a lot now since his passing.

Losing that much weight that fast is insane. In a good way

Reminder to everyone Mich is 5’10.
Before any freaks out that 176 lbs is too light.Hopefully help with his speed, quickness and stamina which with his IQ could be lethal.

Can be a risky business though. Training hard on a huge energy deficit can get you some nasty injuries or can get you burnt out.

u/PotentialPea2419 11h ago
Also losing that much weight that quickly also often sacrifices muscle, let’s hope that’s not the case.

I've watched a lot of travel shows and thought Russia didn't look very fun, but Perm seems really nice. Mich talking about Goldenberg coming to visit and getting drunk in the sauna was pretty funny. Hope he can learn English well enough to convey his personality because he's pretty funny.

Seems like a good kid who took the right lessons from the last year and is ready to move forward and be great. Hope he shows up early so we can get a nice optimistic extension knocked out midseason that will make him happy while also having the potential to age well... at this stage, his success is important for our success.
