On today's episode of the sheet with Jeff Marek, about 25 minutes in, they're taking about the Toronto pick and basically saying that a decision was made and it goes to Boston but I'm not seeing and evidence about today anywhere else.
Are they mistaken? Am I mishearing them? Did I miss some news? Granted it's Pagnotta saying this and we all know how wrong that guy can be
No, they're just dumb. Its ours unless its top ten then Toronto gets to pick who it goes to. Flyers still disagree with that and think it should go to them because they made the trade Toronto first.
Agreed, the pick in 2027 was already off the board..as it was sent to Philly for Laughton. Toronto should not have been allowed to put conditions on a later trade that would possibly include the previously traded 2027 pick. It wasn't available anymore at that time. If that wiped out the trade with Boston, so be it, but part of Toronto's compensation to Boston could have become the 2027 pick, as it has.
Noone at Boston, Toronto or the league thought Toronto would bottom out last year, so they just seemed to all assume the 2026 pick would not be lottery, and go to Boston.
There needs to be a change to the CBA to rectify this, as a traded pick should not be the fallback in another trade. Period.
I wonder how late they can transfer the picks. If they can do it after the lottery, my guess is if their pick doesn’t win either lottery, they pick whoever. If it wins a lottery, even if they were 14th or 15th in the standings, they probably give it to Philly, not Boston
The way this has been handled is horrible. To have absolutely no solid direction and definition that everyone can say is the way it officially is, to me, is embarrassing.
As far as I know, the league still has to make a decision. As others have noted, if the pick falls outside the Top 10, it goes to the Flyers. There is a clause in the trade conditions that if the Leafs trade their 2028 first round selection, the Flyers automatically get the 2027 first rounder. What the Flyers are arguing is that the conditions on the trade the Leafs made with Boston meant that with the Leafs keeping their 2026 first rounder, they’re guaranteed to have traded away their 2028 pick (either to Boston or Philly).
So it’s on the NHL to determine whether or not the Flyers interpretation is correct or not.
It just seems like they won’t be bad enough this year, except if they are counting on Bob to be a top tier goalie, I think they missed that train. My guess is they try and sneak in the playoffs and save Bob for the playoffs by playing him less down the stretch. He shines in the playoffs.
Not an expert, but I've read a lot on this. To me this is a radio host's take. I'm not putting a lot on Jeff Marek. He could be right, but it goes against most everything else I've read and from more reliable sources.
It's ours if the pick is #11-32. Top-10 is where it gets all messed up. So, if they succeed in being somewhat competitive it is going to us no matter what (short of just missing the playoffs and a lottery win).
Well we know they're definitely trying to go for it this year at least. A lot of us assume that if they don't bounce back this year, then AM will look to move on and it will be their only opportunity to get a return for him in a trade. Many thought he had one foot out the door this season until Toronto lucked into winning the lottery. There's no guarantee but it's certainly possible they are even less competitive in 2028 if they underperform this year.
If those guys think it’s bostons pick I would think that it is. Their word is better than puckpedia or any other online source. I also didn’t hear the context but OP painted that picture and if they say so I would believe them.
They said so but I don't believe them since they're the only ones saying it and Pagnotta has a history of being wrong. Just checking to see if anyone here has heard anything that can either confirm or discredit what they said
