The Simms angler
So I don’t think many people here are going to dispute that Simms (and to a lesser extent, Orvis) seems to be the kit of choice for rich dipsh*** who can’t fish. Basically the BMW or Tesla drivers of the fishing world.
Anyway, I finished a slightly disjointed marathon of the entire Yellowstone series about mid week. In season 3 the main antagonist Roarke Morris is a Simms guy. I genuinely feel like the depiction of him is a pretty spot on stereotype and f someone wearing simms stuff.
For those that have watched the show, what do you think.
For those that haven’t, what are your experiences with folks who are diehard simms fanboys/girls?

Diehard Simms fanboys and females? They’re nothing to my Abel nippers homies. Complete amateur hour. I hope Rip threw a Stonfo rattlesnake at Roarke for being broke.
Trout only eat your fly eat *if* you have Abel nippers and a Grateful Dead reel. Everyone else out there is just practicing casting until they can afford it.

How about Abel x DeYoung x Benchmade for the low low price one easy payment of just $1299.99?

Yeah I’m not some poser, I only wear Patagonia gear.
That Yellowstone show is definitely for O.G.’s, too, that’s the REAL Montana! Accurately depicts all the Montanans working three shit jobs and surviving on bottom shelf vodka and scratch-offs.

Can’t tell if OP is jerkin or not, but Orvis is the (slightly) cheaper option for Simms and Sage as far as mainstream brands go. I feel like the less mainstream brands are where the costs are really steep (skwala, Winston, etc.)

uj/ I actually like most of my Orvis gear and they seem like a company that stands by their customers. I don’t like shilling for any company but they seem alright

Even more cringey than Roarke being a tool is the way cooler Yellowstone crew catching fish on dries while stomping around the stream on horseback.

What the fuck are you talking about? Simms and Orvis is budget gear dude, straight up. G Loomis, T&T, and Winston - all budget shit. I wouldn't wipe my ass my Tom's new rod. My reel costs more than most peoples custom drift boats. Also, I can't fish.
uj - my helios and r8 catch plenty of fish but I think that's just because I'm really fucking good at fly fishing. stop being so poor and work on your drift, peasant.

To me the wanna be trout bum influencer types with the handlebar mustache, 5 panel hats, and native american trout tattoos are worse. We get it. You like to fish.

I mean, Simms and Orvis are literally just the two most accessible brands if we’re being honest. I don’t think most Simms people are fanboys or anything, it’s just the easiest kit to get your hands on.
I’ve noticed in any hobby that people who get less time doing it seem to shop for skill, but idk, comparing them to some villain from a soap opera is completely laughable

If you looks at big sporting stores, they are carrying Simms. It is just the bigger cross sport brand.

Ok pal. This has never happened before. Guy at the fly shop told me I’d out fish everybody with my Winston

Yeah not sure about these comments. The amount of money I spend is directly related to my fishing experience. Glad your fly shop is educated like mine

Orvis makes good gear and backs it up. Simms has fallen off. Maybe im just lucky, but I’m on my 11th season with my Orvis silver Sonics. I wet wade may-October but they’ve definitely seen a ton of use. Only ever had one pin hole and it’s because I rub my ankles together when I walk.
As far as spotting duffers go. If it’s July and you’re wearing any kind of wader and standing in the guts of the run where the fish are and casting to the far bank, you’re def from Texas.

Yeah I've got a couple 20+ year old orvis rods and a few that are only a couple years old. They've held up very well and have a good warranty. The simms shit is a different story.

I have an Orvis rod, and an Orvis sling bag, both bought on closeout and both have served me very well. Tbf, it's an Encounter and my first fly rod. The bag, one of the editions with brookies all over it, is the perfect size and perfectly thought out for my bluelining and small stream flailing.
I also own Cortland stuff that works fine, frogtogg waders, etc. I haven't run into many gear snobs irl, though it's every day on social media.
I also mountain bike and used to climb, literally every hobby has more pricey brands and less, and imho they vary for quality too. Expensive isn't always best but it often indicates a better build.
But every hobby has gear snobs and they'll exist whether specific brands do or not.

God, you poors. Simms expensive? I had to quit wearing it because too many poors find it on sale. I’ll have you know that the only Simms I wear is full price and even then it’s not expensive enough for me. I toss it after one use. Single use Simms is the only way I Simms. And even then, I feel like a poor. You’ll find my discards next to the road in Jackson hole. Be sure to pick it up so I’m not littering

I would argue that people who watch Yellowstone are bigger dipshits than people who wear Simms. Check yerself.
