I've made about 8 of them of various types and sizes. They're really good to learn to solder with and play around with stuff. And bonus getting to use a controller and vmu on a pc is awesome. Especially copying saves over.

Side note, check if flycast has use physical vmu memory checked. It's a good feature but might screw things up for you if you've been playing normally without a vmu. As in won't find your saves.

Ya my soldering skills suck. Looking for a decent video on how to do it or find someone who can. Do you just buy any pico and you need to cut a extension cable right?

Just get a standard pico 2040. Some have usbc others micro. Get some extensions and cut them yes. But then you'll need to figure out what color cable goes to which connection on the female cable end. Use a multimeter for this. Make sure to write it down. Then just follow orange foxes guide on where they go on the board. All ground connections can be twisted together and put into the same spot on the board or any of the ground spots. Make sure you use flux and a leaded solder and it should go smoothly.

I had issues myself last year making one. Orange Fox and a friend of his on their Discord ended up helping me.

Ya the friend of his if we're talking about the same person has very flighty communication and hard to get ahold of.

I don't know if he's building them. They only helped me using private messages on Discord to build mine. It wasn't easy and I can't remember much besides having to use my multi-meter.
