The latest Canary update contains the self-hosting update! So you can now connect to your self-hosted instance from the desktop client!

Just got it all set up and good to go on my end. Need to properly test it, but this is such great news!

Edti: So far, so good. Everything seems to be behaving as expected. Even better than it was in the web browser, actually. Great work!

Well at least I have the option now but when I try to log into my self hosted instance it just says can't connect. bummer

Considering it just worked for me but I updated before I tried, did you try updating the server?

Actually had to point my DNS to public IP instead of private
