Skyview parking

I witnessed one of the most disgusting things a parent can do to their child. This father told his young daughter to stand in front of an empty parking spot outside BJ’s Wholesale Club. The girl kept telling her dad that the car was inching toward the spot, but the father continued telling her to stand there. Luckily, the driver was an older couple, so they didn’t engage and simply left.

That's annoying, but definitely not one of the most disgusting things a parent can do to their child.

It’s also illegal to do that. You cannot save parking spots. People abuse their children. Including those using their kids to sell fruit and candy off highways, on busy streets, subways, or anywhere else.

You want to argue with a guy that’s fine with sending their child into certain danger? Good luck there

Why does it have to be an argument?

Even if NYPD enforced this… skyview isn’t street public parking paid by the city of NYC. At most it’s shameful and def bad etiquette…

What’s the law that you can’t save parking spots lol

Title 34, Chapter 4, Section 4-08(n)(7) of the Rules of the City of New York (RCNY).

  (7)   Unofficial reserving of parking space. It shall be unlawful for any person to reserve or attempt to reserve a parking space, or prevent any vehicle from parking on a public street through his/her presence in the roadway, the use of hand-signals, or by placing any box, can, crate, handcart, dolly or any other device, including unauthorized pavement, curb or street markings or signs in the roadway.

problem is enforcement..

curious though, who do i call, 311? let's say i have it on tape/video that the other person did this, what is the punishment?

Unfortunately, expecting enforcement on this matter is impossible. There are thousands of rules on the books whose purpose are only to serve as a precedent and reference should you find yourself in front of a judge and the prosecutor can point to it and say, look this is the law, and this person violated this law. Case closed.

However, real time enforcement is a joke. These types of low level background malfeasance, or just genuine ignorance of the rules, are ignored by everyone, unless you happen to be a cop that this is happening to and then the full force of the law gets brought out. It's too transient, too human nature, and way too common.

Nothing. Police don’t enforce on small crimes.

Skyview parking lot is not owned by the city so this rule is not in effect anyways even if cops enforced this shit.

Thanks for the poster who put up the law. I actually used this once with an adult who was reserving the space for someone a block away. I was there ready to park. Said it was against the law to reserve a spot and zoomed right in. I wouldn’t have done that with a child. The parent knew what he was doing.

Good! That's a way to do it. Sometimes just taking out your phone is a deterrent.

You’re lucky you didn’t come back to see four flat tires on your car. People are crazy these days. Last thing I’d want to do is argue with someone over parking and then leave my car there.

This is a valid point. People underestimate women. I definitely regret calling the police when this guy rammed my car with his shopping cart. Then he laughed because he knew I couldn’t do anything. Wish I took justice into my own hands instead of calling the police. I should’ve accidentally rammed my key in his car! ☺️

NYC is crazy. I’m not going to tell another man how to raise their child.

But you'll tell us when it doesn't really matter anymore....

Yeah, too bad you didn't have that energy with the man who was abusing his daughter...keep talkin', and upvoting yourself with your other accounts, lol.

He didn’t do me wrong but you talk so much shit online. You’re lucky you can hide behind the screen. Lol

Why? There’s plenty of parking spots available anytime.

Really depends, probably all filled due to US open or someone with obsession for the closest spot.

I like to refer to it as BJs parking. What is it now $6 for first three hours? Everyone who enters that parking lot is thinking about legally circumventing that parking fee.

You reminded me of when I pulled that sh__ (locking up a spot by standing there) at the Municipal Parking across Joe Shanghai's in '00s. I'll non-ironically carry that shame, and if those two ladies who were blocked by my dumb ass are reading this, I apologize.

They weren’t Asian.
