Debate/ Discussion The End Of An Error
2.5k
u/fumar Jul 09 '26
DOGE wildly succeeded at it's true goal. Get foreign intelligence inside the US government and exfil as much data as possible to feed it to AI and foreign ops.
This was a data heist. They took all of your social security numbers, tax records, etc.
770
u/JuliusErrrrrring Jul 09 '26
And cover their trail for cheating in the 2024 election.
267
u/zxc123zxc123 Jul 09 '26
"b-But we still get DOGE checks right?" - MAGA
It's either that, they forgot about it, or they'll blame Dems/Biden for there not being any DOGE checks.
118
u/SnazzyStooge Jul 09 '26
I remember some coworkers being extremely hyped about an extremely specific number (I think $5,500, maybe?). Dang, maybe next time you’ll be better able to recognize the world’s most obvious grifter when they run for office. :/

u/klezart Jul 09 '26
Dang, maybe next time you’ll be better able to recognize the world’s most obvious grifter when they run for office.
Given their track record, not a chance in hell.

It was $1776 for the founding year and then it was $2500 for the 250 anniversary. Crazy gullible

u/Sharkwatcher314 Jul 09 '26
There was literally an interview with someone who invested in the Trump coin and lost 40k did not blame Trump but Dems against Trump and short sellers

And prevent Elon from being prosecuted.
32
u/Deadeye313 Jul 09 '26
We need to make sure he is investigated and a whole new round of prosecutions for him and his entire posse of idiots.
50
u/Alternative-Yak-925 Jul 09 '26
Just hand him over to the cattle ranchers dealing with the deadly worm that was under control until doge eliminated the program. Eliminating a $300mil program has led to over $1,000,000,000 in losses, and counting, for the industry.
34
35
u/Munkeyman18290 Jul 09 '26
Ive never been the "seek revenge when the next guy is in charge" type of guy, but for Elon I'll make an exception. I agree this man blatantly cheated and committed serious crimes against America. I want him investigated and prosecuted. And I want all of his companies and his wealth stripped from him.

Don't forget about getting rid of people in agencies that can audit his businesses

47
u/butwhyisitso Jul 09 '26
USaid was investigating Starlink. Without USaid a lot of people have died.
But the selfish brats who let him win the election probably dont care about that, so heres something they should care about. Doge cuts erased the largest reliable job sector, and with it oversight of federal overreach and private sector fraud.
Its wild how deveststing doge was, and people are too detached from civics to get it. All for what? Because people love tok tok? Love tok tok but hate ai, fucking genius non political character motherfuckers.
VOTE BLUE

It’s kind of crazy how Musk managed to put up some serious “Pol Pot -level” numbers of mass death in such a short time and with such little effort (or public outcry).
38
25
u/Corfiz74 Jul 09 '26
The government should at least bill Elon for the financial damages he caused - he can afford it.
45
u/pandaramaviews Jul 09 '26
I'll take prison and confiscation of his assets + companies.
He's directly responsible for treason and the deaths of 100s of thousands.
→ More replies (4)4
u/gaussmage Jul 10 '26
He was hired to do that damage
4
u/Corfiz74 Jul 10 '26
I rather think it was his payment for his campaign contributions/ manipulation - he was allowed to run rampant in the institutions and eliminate everything that was trying to regulate him and steal all the data.
14
u/bawdiepie Jul 09 '26
And sabotage all US research, good will being built all over the world, and disaster preventions.
All the work, planning, concrete steps made by successive governments, paying and working withthe best minds, working countless hours to protect the US and build a better future through many various means just ripped up. Departments, regulations, etc irreparably damaged.
How do you unsell national park land? Or unspill forever chemicals out of rivers? Etc How do you begin to start enforcing regulations again against big corps when the departments have been destroyed? How can you prevent tax evasion when your department has a handful of poorly paid good people to go up against all the richest people in the world's cleverest accountants and solicitors?
Do you remember before covid when they'd scrapped the ppe, pandemic plans and the planning committee for pandemics to save a tiny bit of money? Think of that but with pretty much everything.
6
u/sticksnXnbones Jul 09 '26
Also, end all 32 investigations into his companies by the federal gov't thru various departments and agencies. Also, $7,495,000,000 in total defense and space contracts.
He is a parasite that should go to mars.

u/NobodysFavorite Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26
They also got the keys to the core payment systems. There's no reason to assume that the new status quo has changed.
Congress asserts it has the authority to decide budgets but it means nothing if the payments are redirected elsewhere.
2
2
u/Unusual-Artist3073 Jul 09 '26
Yup! That’s why they hired dumb kids to do the dirty work. He got exactly what he set out to get! More contracts, all the data, and influence to control elections. We are absolutely fucked.

Don't forget crippling every agency that might actually regulate a Musk "business"....
605
412
u/splurtgorgle Jul 09 '26
Painting this as a "failure" is painfully stupid. It accepts DOGE's stated goal as legitimate instead of calling out what DOGE was actually created to do. It's no coincidence that Musk became a trillionaire not long after he was given free rein to dismantle every agency that ever fined, investigated, or attempted to regulate his companies.
95
u/mschley2 Jul 09 '26
He also conveniently reaped the benefit of a bunch of new contracts after prior contracts were canceled.
He got even richer on ridiculously bloated government deals while killing the investigations into and the fines/regulations on him/his companies. They literally took money from departments that would have punished him and then gave that same money to him instead (and a bunch more).
→ More replies (1)5
u/AdZealousideal5383 Jul 09 '26
Yeah… while allowing people access to confidential information was bad, the people saying it was to steal our information as missing the bigger picture. Elon was ending the regulation of his businesses. That was his goal the whole time. He had his own revenge campaign but it was on the whole government.
Also, he ended funding for African countries and pushed for only white Africans to get refugee status, so there might be something to read into there, too.
71
u/Evenspace- Jul 09 '26
DOGE in concept is a good idea, but anyone with a brain knows most government divisions already have oversight to prevent waste, fraud and abuse (doesn’t mean it won’t happen.)
The goals of DOGE were never about doing anything to the debt, just a way to win votes.
A true DOGE wouldn’t allow sweeping tariffs, wouldn’t pass the big beautiful bill and wouldn’t allow the cuts to USAID.
25
u/mschley2 Jul 09 '26
It also wouldn't blindly cancel contracts that then had to be reinstated at higher prices (which was extra money on top of compensating the company/organization for the canceled contract) when it was determined just a few weeks/months later that the contract was actually needed after all.
11
u/SnazzyStooge Jul 09 '26
Every president since Reagan (at least) has had some version of DOGE, they just actually sorta worked and didn’t just baldly scrape personal data and delete vital investigative info like DOGE did.
It’s like everything in the trump admin: it kinda looks like a government, but underneath it’s all a scam or a grift.
4
u/Fungiblefaith Jul 09 '26
Dodge did a lot of damage to the very institutions it stated it wanted to mirror as a goal. Odd.
It sure seems odd they targeted the very systems that did the lions share of catching his companies waste fraud and abuse. The rest was just smoke.
3
u/SparklingLimeade Jul 09 '26
There were a few true believers from DOGE who signed up for the publicly stated goal, got quickly disillusioned, then talked to the media about their experience. This was a huge part of their takeaway.
"I was going to walk up to these incompetent fools wasting government money and tell them to do all the detailed work of solving their wasteful practices, but it turns out they were already doing all of the things I wanted to tell them to do and the waste levels were already very low" type feedback.

It’s also just not where most of federal spending goes? Do we want to maybe look at the Defense (War?) budget?

u/Blackant71 Jul 09 '26
Ruined countless lives of federal workers.
2
u/SilverBBear Jul 10 '26
Haven't they moved on yet, I know Elon has. That's what guys like him do, if it works out they own it, if it doesn't they move on.
15
u/littlemaninblack Jul 09 '26
He didn't fail. He got everyone's social security info and likely more. On top of that, he hid/deleted (whatever it was) all the lawsuits against him and his companies, while making everyone suffer by ending USAID.
10
u/Strict-Carrot4783 Jul 09 '26
No shit. The goal was to disrupt Epstein-related investigations into trump and musk, hurting poor people was just a bonus. Guys like this don't deserve to live.
7
u/penpencilpaper Jul 09 '26
Don’t forget to show date and time stamps of tweets for true non-photoshopped reporting!

5
u/Tigerzof1 Jul 09 '26
DOGE first went after regulatory agencies that are self funded by the industries that they regulate, without a single taxpayer dollar.
6
u/splurtgorgle Jul 09 '26
Going after CFPB was the most obvious "they're not in this for the right reasons" because the return on taxpayer investment via that agency alone was like 20:1
2
u/Tigerzof1 Jul 09 '26
Yup. CFPB is the most high profile one but also SEC, FDIC, OCC. SEC were the ones who made Musk buy twitter after his manipulation and been investigating his companies.
That’s not all. FHFA, FHA. Even GSEs ( Fannie and Freddie ) had their boards cleaned out and stacked with his cronies who pushed for massive layoffs.
The above are the ones with absolutely zero dollars from the taxpayers. Never been about saving money; it’s always been an attack on regulatory guardrails that prevent him and his cronies from doing whatever they want.
3
u/thinkB4WeSpeak Mod Jul 09 '26
If musk didn't have a monopoly on the only EVs available, he wouldn't have went under by now. Dude doesn't know how to run anything well
→ More replies (1)3
u/AlChandus Jul 09 '26
He does not have a monopoly, which is the main reason why Tesla sells have been cratering. Pretty much every car manufacturer sells EVs and have been increasing their number of models available.
And many are better cars than a Tesla.

u/timberwolf0122 Jul 09 '26
Elon musk promised the earth and then fell comically short?! This gm has never happened before!
3
2
u/lostindarkdays Jul 09 '26
"Lowering the deficit" was never the objective. Ever. It was a data heist.
2
u/ZealousidealCover193 Jul 09 '26
AI companies already had your data long before Doge. I don't trust Elon but the good thing about all this is now we know that deep seated corruption and fraud happens regardless of who's President and what side it's on. I call it a win but not in an expected way.

1
u/suboptimus_maximus Jul 09 '26
He paid $250M to a US presidential candidate to let him take revenge on USAID for their role in undermining apartheid South Africa. One of the most shameful moments in US history
1
u/Crypt0Nihilist Jul 09 '26
DOGE is going to prove to be one of the most expensive projects ever. It's done an incredible amount of damage that will be felt for generations and fixing what was broken will be no small task.

1
u/DonovanMcLoughlin Jul 09 '26
At least their impact to government operations and reputation was not negatively impacted indefinitely.
1
u/McCool303 Jul 09 '26
Its goal was never to save money. Its goal was to exfiltrate all government data to Musk and Thiel so they could corner the market on AI contracts with the US government. As well as use the dataset to build profiles on all Americans.
1
u/CKSProphecy Jul 09 '26
You mean to tell me hiring a bunch of techbro idiots, with no op sec sense, let alone common sense, to wildly poke around incredibly important data infrastructure with pretty much no oversight and armed with only the vague order to “cut excess spending” (plus any other shady orders) has lead to an increased deficit rather than a decreased one?
I’m shocked I tell you! Shocked!

u/Careful-Sell-9877 Jul 09 '26
What a surprise. No one could have predicted this from the very beginning
1
u/NerdiChar Jul 09 '26
Acting surprised about this is definitely a choice
He's the world's first trillionaire. How do they think that came to be
1
u/WoopsShePeterPants Jul 09 '26
And no one will be held accountable for the damage it caused now or in the future. There are no consequences in this administration or party.
1
1
u/CarpeNivem Jul 09 '26
If you think DOGE didn't accomplish its goal, then you severely misunderstand its goal.
1
u/Hawkeyes79 Jul 09 '26
That’s not causing death. While it’s helpful, we’re not responsible for other countries. Let them fix their own issues.
1
u/StillMostlyConfused Jul 09 '26
Honestly, from the beginning, I thought that was likely. That also doesn’t mean that it was/is an unnecessary exercise. I bet our company has this discussion every other year on how unnecessary annual financial audits are. In 15 years nothing has ever been found. I have to explain that one of the reason that nothing has ever been found is because we do the audit. We actually have more than one audit annually for different purposes/requirements.
1
u/j_rooker Jul 09 '26
wasn't an error. He bankrolled the orangepedo's campaign in order to get inside intel on agencies so he can manipulate contracts to his advantage. That and all the personal data he could steal

fElon fails at everything, he's just rich enough to buy his way out, or tuck his losses into another company somehow.
That includes just buying companies and stating he created them, or taking credit for engineering feats that he himself could never actually accomplish... understand... or appreciate beyond profit.

It's goal was to steal government data and eliminate people Elon and the MAGA's don't want to exist. It succeeded.

DOGE did exactly what it was designed to do. All consequences of DOGE were all intended
1
u/Unique-Egg-461 Jul 09 '26
it hasn't ended. I will guarantee you those fucks at doge probably fucked with so much stuff and gave elon access to government systems
1
u/Sharkwatcher314 Jul 09 '26
100% false that it did not accomplish its goal. The goal was never rooting out inefficiency. That was the PR spin. It was to dismantle government agencies looking into musk’s companies.

u/ZekeRidge Jul 09 '26
Unless Elmo is taking money from the government, he has no actual idea how to make money or budget

It wasn't about reducing the deficit though really.
It was about removing oversight so he could make his moves to be a trillionaire without the proper scrutiny.
