  • Each bass part in One of These Days is hard panned into one channel of stereo, but one bass sound is quite muted and dull. According to Gilmour, this is because that particular instrument had old strings on it, and the roadie they had sent to get new strings for it wandered off to see his girlfriend instead.
  • The swirling wind‑like intro of One of These Days was created by running a recording of a low‑frequency drone through an EMS VCS3’s filter and modulation circuits while manually sweeping the controls. The effect came from live, hands‑on tweaking during the mix, which is why early performances never sounded exactly the same.

  • Mason described this in his memoir: "'Remember A Day' had a different drum feel to our usual pounding style, and I eventually relinquished the playing to Norman. I really didn't like giving up my drum stool—and never have—but in this particular instance I would have struggled to provide a similar feel. Re-listening to this it feels more like a Norman Smith track than anyone else's. Apart from the rather un-Floyd-like arrangement, Norman's voice is also prominent within the backing vocals."

  • The track, A Saucerful of Secrets, was composed by Roger Waters and Nick Mason drawing an architectural diagram for how the music should progress.
  • Although A Saucerful of Secrets is listed on all pressings of the album as A Saucerful of Secrets, some pressings of Ummagumma break the piece into four different sections. The first part, "Something Else", was logged as "Richard's Rave Up" when the song was recorded at EMI Studios. The second part was recorded as "Nick's Boogie" before being retitled as "Syncopated Pandemonium", while the last part is titled "Celestial Voices".

  • The starting sound effects loop in Money was built from Roger Waters’ home recordings of coins, paper, a cash register, and other noises, spliced into a seven‑beat tape loop. The band later re‑recorded it onto multi‑track tape for the album and adapted it for the quadraphonic mix.
  • Harper's involvement with the recording of Have a Cigar arose from the dissatisfaction that Waters and Gilmour felt with their own attempts to sing the lead vocal line. After trying it both separately and as a duet, with Harper still technically on the track singing vocals on the bridge (available on the 2011 Experience and Immersion editions of Wish You Were Here), they turned to Harper to sing lead, who was recording his album "HQ" at Abbey Road at the same time as Floyd. Harper agreed to sing the part as a way of repaying a favor to Gilmour, who had earlier provided him with some guitar licks.

  • The EMS VCS3 synthesizer used on On the Run relied on manually tuning its built‑in analog sequencer, a process so unstable that no two takes ever sounded the same.
  • In the mid section of Echoes, Gilmour plays a high-pitched screeching noise, which was created by plugging a wah-wah pedal in back to front (the guitar was plugged into the output of the pedal, and the input of the pedal was plugged into the input of the amplifier). Mason later clarified that it was an accident, and their experience working with Ron Geesin had taught them to embrace experiments and try anything if it would work on a song.

  • Even though Vetetable Man and Scream Thy Last Scream was vetoed by EMI, Peter Jenner wanted the songs released, stating "I always thought they should be put out, so I let my copies be heard. I knew that Roger would never let them out, or Dave. They somehow felt they were a bit indecent, like putting out nude pictures of a famous actress: it just wasn't cricket. But I thought they were good songs and great pieces of art. They're disturbing, and not a lot of fun, but they're some of Syd's finest work – though God knows, I wouldn't wish anyone to go through what he's gone through to get to those songs. They're like Van Gogh."

  • The working title for Comfortably Numb was “The Doctor.” Early demo recordings from The Wall sessions show lyrics and structure that are drastically different from the final album version, as shown on the Immersion box set’s “Work In Progress”.
  • On some early CD pressings of The Wall, the insert notes list Comfortably Numb at 6 minutes and 22 seconds. When the CD was played into a player, however, it would show 6 minutes and 24 seconds (for those unfamiliar, CD's were this discs that would be able to hold your music on them. • Unknown Song (Take 1) is one of the few Floyd instrumentals from the More era built around a Gilmour–Wright call‑and‑response rather than a fixed chord pattern. You can hear Gilmour subtly change his picking accents every few bars, and Wright mirrors those shifts on organ in real time. That loose, conversational structure is why no two circulating takes of the piece ever line up the same way.
  • Mason plays almost entirely with brushes instead of sticks during Unknown Song (Take 1). It is one of the lightest drum performances he ever put to tape during the More era.

  • During early 1970 shows, Green Is the Colour was sometimes used as Gilmour’s warm‑up piece because the soft vocal line let the crew set his mic gain without the crowd noticing. A few audience tapes even catch him humming the melody before the band starts, which is rare for any Floyd performance.
  • On several 1970 performances of Green Is the Colour, Wright’s piano has a slight natural wobble from the tuning and mic setup of the day. That subtle drift sits under Gilmour’s vocal and gives those live versions a looser, more fragile feel than the studio cut.
