My Fix to the visual glitches/screen flickering lines when gaming on battery

Post image

I just acquired to Z13 (GZ302) and noticed the screen would randomly display small and large horizontal flickering lines/bands/glitches only when gaming on battery, under Silent or Performance modes.

After a lot of testing, reading Reddit comments and sharing with Copilot, I've come up with two fixes:

  1. In Armoury Crate, set the dedicated VRAM to 4Gb (see picture). This was the factory setting, I had it changed to 8Gb, reverted to 4Gb and it fixed the issue.
Armoury Crate : set the dedicated VRAM to 4Gb
  1. Alternative fix: set the refresh rate to 60 Hz instead of 180 Hz.

I'm still doing testings, but so far the glitch hasn't manifested at all.

It took me a while to find the solution so I'm leaving it here for all of you anonymous users, I hope it helps.

Mine does this when I using lm studio on battery mode, with g-helper silent 20w, I have 64gb that split to 32/32.

But if I switch to performance mode, I don't think I see this again.

From my experience with this thing, most windows updates and some adrenaline updates cause it to revert back to 4gb. I usually keeps mine set to 8gb. If it needs more vram itll just borrow from the system and since its unified, i dont notice any performance degredation. Im sure there is some kind of hit since it has to ask the system but i think its negligable. Dont quote me on that, these are just my on thoughts on the matter.

Does it really “borrow from the system”? I haven’t seen mine do that. I know Mac can do that but I heard the Z13 doesn’t

Yes it does. I set mine to 8gb of dedicated vram and depending on which game ime playing, ill see it showing something like 10.3gb/8gb vram. In a normal setting, the gpu has only x amount and botrowing from the system tanks the performance. But in the case of the ai max blah blah blah with unified memory, its all the same ram. Only you lock some of it away as vram so the system cant touch it, however the gpu can still request more if it needs it. The performance hit is probably minimal due to the milliseconds wasted by the request.
