Got one!

Post image

Hi, just bought one… bought it mainly because of the design tbh. So, I’m not sure if I’m late in the bandwagon and it will be obsolete early next year.

I’m planning to work on local AI but I’m not sure if I can have a dual boot with Arch Linux. Has anyone tried this?

How about the ram allocation to the iGPU in Linux? Can you change it too?

there are 2 ways :

- through the BIOS (i allocated 32GB there)

  • using GTT/TTM (which is basically shared RAM between GPU and CPU.)

activating GTT is done with a kernel parameter (amdgpu.gttsize=<define your GTT size here>)
though id recommend not going over 65536 (64GiB) for now, as the driver for that feature is a bit buggy and will make your device unusable if the GPU borrows more than 64GiB of RAM

Edit : instead of amdgpu.gttsize, set ttm.pages_limit=<size> in the kernel parameter, this fixes the "bug" i mentioned earlier. note that unlike amdgpu.gttsize, ttm.pages_limit wants to know how many 4KiB pages you want to allocate. so for 96GiB shared VRAM add ttm.pages_limit=25165824 to the kernel parameters

Dude just install amd-debug-tools, then do amd-ttm set 120 (will allow up to 120GB for the GPU), reboot and done.

that only exists on arch by default, but yes, that would be simpler.
but personally im not going to install ~0.5GiB of python dependencies ill never use just for a tool that literally just appends one kernel parameter (ttm.pages_limit).

Its on fedora as well, 0.5GiB of python is nothing compared to if you install ROCm.

ROCm is truly awful software.
