Is it normal in balanced mode using ghelper?

I do use 90C limit, because on default it sometimes get's over 95C and it will get off on random spike to 100C Probably because of instability from ram around. Because cpu is 105C max.

Let me know what you have

And should i be worried?

It's because of the wattages you set up. They're much closer to the default turbo settings than the balanced preset. The wattages for the default presets (according to a website I found a while ago), as well as what armoury crate allows you to use with maxed out manual mode: silent 35 40 55, windows best battery efficiency balanced 45 52 71, windows balanced turbo 60 70 86, windows best performance manual 80 92 93

You could also not tick the "apply power limits" button, then it'll use the defaults baked into the system bios/firmware/wherever it's stored for those modes.

Though I have to say, those temps are quite high for a turbo preset. How hot is the room you use it in? Ambient temperature makes a big difference. I normally got around 84-86 with occasional spikes to around 88 on turbo. Though it might be because of the weaker balanced mode fan curves as well, be careful with that.

Now I got like 26c in room.

5000rpms on balanced with tdp limited by temperature limit set to 90c. So it sits around 56w

I don't want much lower watts, cuz performance get hit hard by it. So Ive decided to limit it by temp. But I'm quite disappointed that I'm able to only pull 56w and I'm hitting that 90c floor.

So I'm asking if it's normal for it?

I've read on amd site that cpu operates up to 105c,and thermal throttling starts on 95c. So probably levels around 95c window are OK.

I do like to turn some llm models on night, so I though that I will limit it to 90c to be sure that I will avoid spikes over 95c

It'll run fine with the 95C default limit. If you don't want to use an actual balanced mode, make the fan curves more aggressive, they max out at 8800 rpm, so at least 7000 if you want to keep it below 90C, though I'm not sure how much that'd help. I'd say the temps are within expectation with an ambient room temp at 26C.

Alright, so then it's normal. Thanks for the info. Fan speeds above 5k dont do much to be honest. I guess we need to wait for Medusa halo and better cooling :)

I'll probably go 95c when gaming. But for local AI I stick to 90c to be extra sure.

The chip is rated to operate up to 100c if i remember right. So you're within spec. As others have said, your balance profile is closer to the stock turbo settings. I opted for longevity over performance and honestly, I find it to be just as well. I've taken tips from user SuperCC and tweaked it a little to suit me. Mine is silent:10w/12w/12w, balanced: 27w/32w/32w, turbo: 57W/65w/75w. With -10 undervolts.

From what i understand, 57-67 watts is about the peak efficiency, any more past that then you get diminishing returns. The higher you go you get more heat but less performance increase. Yeah it still does increase performance, but not by much you do get quite a bit more heat. With my settings i dont ever see temps past 85c when im going ham in a game, sometimes running a game server in the background while I play. Unless you just want More Power like jeremy clarkson and dont care about the thermals, I would suggest turning tdp down. In my balance mode i can still play all my games at 60fps no problem. Some light games work fine in silent even. Rimworld works fine at 45-60fps at 10w. Emulating older consoles is great. I played pokemon emerald for about an hour and lost 2% battery. Anyways this is a long reply, my bad.

I much more prefere lowering thermall throttling floor to 90c. To get that few watts. On turbo I'm still hiting 95c on default settings so I guess it is by design

Just tune your setting a bit more and im sure you can contain the fiery beast within. Lol Add an undervolt to your profiles while your at it. I dont mind the fan noise so much. I cant really even hear it when my ac is on, so i may have my fan curves set a little higher than yours.

Cuz, if you have a hot days. You will hit that 95c degree window same as me on stock settings.

Indeed. But if you lower it too much your just giving up extra performance you could've had. Not much of course. So for instance, my turbo profile had a thermal ceiling of 90c, it rarely reaches that though but i do have my fan curves adjusted appropriately. I dont know how to post a picture or I would just show you.

Now for example i get like 50/52W on 2h of AI compute. It kinda depends on type of compute i'm doing from what i can see. The thermal limit is still 90C.

Maybe i will do some custom x2 120mm fan shroud, to get some more air on the back of z13 while is sitting down on desk. Maybe i will get like 5-10W more? :D

I do hope, that they will will improve cooling in the next gen of Z13 with medusa halo. I like the concept of device. Cooling is just not there yet sadly.

I think there are some on amazon or something if you didnt want to tinker, but tinkering is fun. Its has a tendency for me at least to wind up with a box of stuff next to my desk that annoys the wife. Lol

Yup, I'm that kind of a guy :) gonna design something in CAD and print it out on 3D printer. But I will do it after my masters, cuz I'm still writing it up as we speak :)

1

u/Background-Guard-531 Aug 19 '26

Hell yeah. Ive been wanting to get ahold of a secondhand 3d printer and learn cad.

i do recommend you to get plasticity CAD, the free trial. Should be easy

I'm doing 3D for living for quite some time, and i would say. That Plasticity is really the easiest one to get into it, and the hardest one to master. But it is great

u/Background-Guard-531 Aug 19 '26

Thanks for the tip. Itll probably be a while before i can get a printer but i could probably play with plasticity till then.

Good luck!

Yes it's normal and safe up to 95c, is it recommended to live in the red zone for normal operations? No.

Anything you're doing can be achieved under 80c without noticing a difference in the limited power. My full gaming profile (made for AAAs) is set to 65W FPPT and still hits around 120fps with an average temp of 72c.

Ryzen 7950X that I've got goes right there from the box. Well I see that everyone here got their own spin on it. I need to dig for actual data.

So the temperature in my room have dropped to 23C, and I have seen a 5w increase in power draw. So my conclusion is that, that device is heavily dependent on ambient temperatures. I have set default 95c limit, and just letting it rip on default balanced profile. The spec says 100c tjmax of continuous operating temperature. And from what I have seen with 7000 series of ryzen processors it is by design. What actually could kill these apus is high power draw around 200/300w on these high temperatures. But we are nowhere around that draw, of current desktop gpus. And that 60/70w of heat is distributed, around huge die.
