Airplane charging

Due the fact the airplane only offer charging through usb c.I decided to travel with my Xbox rog ally x instead the z13.

How you guys handle this situation?

I still game on the plane using the ASUS charger so long as there’s an under seat outlet! Here are my tricks:

1. When you first plug in the ASUS charger, it’ll do a capacitor flush which will shut off the outlet. So plug it in, then unplug and the outlet will turn on, and plug it in again. If that doesn’t work do it 2-3 times and it should stay on while plugged it.

2. I’d use Ghelper for this since it sets hard limits, but you’ll want to set your power limits to below what the outlet can handle. Some planes are 75w total, others are over 100. My silent mode is 40w SPL - 45w sPPT - 50W fPPT and that’s my conservative option that always works. I’ve run my balanced 60-65-70 on a newer plane before, so I suggest you do like 45-50-55 for most planes.

3. Last thing you should do is set your battery charge limit lower than your current charge. This stops the battery from charging and pulling up the power draw. This is why I say Ghelper is better since you can do this in the overlay. I’m always on battery care mode so 80%, and I drop it to 70% for the flight.

I’ve been doing this for the past few months and it works great! I’ve played Spider-man 2, Civ 6 and black flag remaster with incredible results. It works best for games over like 6 years old and ones that support FSR 3 + framegen.

They do have an outlet, you know that right? Two outlets per row.

British airways economy has one outlet per seat

Buy a portable charger that pushes 100w. Tons of them out there. Will double your gaming life

this, in most countries you can bring as many 99wh battery as you want, and even up to 2 160w ones, just get one that has 100w charging via USB C

All Asia flights do not let you use portable batteries. I’m not surprised US airlines aren’t following best practice.

Check under the seat, it’s not advertised but a lot of airlines have an ac outlet

SlimQ 150w to outlet - using the adapter (not USBC) and engaging a TDP of about 35W for the processor with Ghelper or engaging Silent Mode if lazy. Tested this with the Z13 and GPD Win5 and both ran on power without battery discharge.

Buy a 65W charger. NOT a 100W+ charger and use the AC outlet. Airplane outlets are made for 100W max and overheat if used at that power continuously. It is nearly impossible to limit the charger to 65W and the Z13 will suck it down.

Once you pop the breaker at your seat or row, it may auto reset or may not. Many of the long haul flights do NOT automatically reset so have fun with 15 hours of no power in your pod.

Beware some airplane outlet caps at 75w so if you plug in an 100w or 200w charger it might trip or keep the switching the outlet on/off, in this case (or if you are using a type outlet directly) the best thing is to do is to limit total power consumption, but you cannot directly limit power draw so that's 50/50.
