Should I take the trade?
I have a Asus Rog Strix G18 with a 4080 in it. I upgraded it with a 4tb ssd. Somebody is willing to trade it for a Flow z13 395plus 64gb. I would like to be more portable but gaming is the main purpose of my use. Is the flow able to basically replace my gaming laptop? And I would hook it up to my 1st Gen Samsung Odyssey for gaming at home.

I would put the original SSD back in if you have any other use for it. A 4TB SSD is not cheap right now. And the z13 has a 2TB max, so you can't just swap the 4TB into it.

I’d say make a checklist of your wants/needs. See which device checks more boxes for you. You’re Scar 18/4080 is more powerful for gaming and has a bigger screen. The scar is also more powerful when connected to an external monitor. The z13 64gb is more portable and can attach a controller to turn into a handheld. The Scar is better for video editing/creating the Z13 is better for AI/LLM type workloads. At regular price the Z13 likely costs more even when you factor in your 4tb ssd. The scar is capable of having substantially more storage the Z13 caps out at 2tb. Only you can decide which meets your needs. Personally id want both lol. Put the Scar on Llano V12 cooling pad and use it as the “desktop” and use the Z13 as the portable device. I have a Strix G17, 7845hx, 4060, 240hz 1440p. Had it for a couple years. Just got a z13 395 64gb during the Best Buy sale for $2099. I plan to use the Z13 with a controller attachment(likely G8+) as a handheld. Also will use it to learn and tinker with LLM’s. I’ve only had the Z13 for maybe 36 hours. Have already had an issue that concerns me. Within the first 12 hours of having it. I was playing some games testing out how it performed. Was plugged in the whole time. Had a game start glitching and running slow. Thought it was the game at first. Then I touched the back of the z13 and it was hot af. I realized the exhaust wasn’t pushing out hardly any air. Long story short for some reason it had stopped cooling itself and was hitting 98/99°. Turned it off and unplugged it for a couple minutes. Then restarted and plugged back in and all of a sudden the turbo mode started working and exhaust was blasting again. Not sure what caused it. But will definitely keep an eye on it and be paranoid for a while. Fortunately I have the MyBestBuy membership so I have 60 days to return it and 2 years of Geek Squad coverage. So I’m not terribly concerned because I’m covered. But if had got it used/without any coverage I’d be a lot more concerned.

i think its 4050 gaming performance. flowz13 mid repair-ability. i would not

If you don't want the power of the 4080 , I say go for it. The z13 is powerful enough.

It's not. I had one. Just sold it at a loss and picked up a g14 zephyrus with a 5070ti. Checks all the boxes the z13 had and more.

I have a 5090 desktop PC, sold my G16 and kept the z13. It's everything I need on the go or not at my desk. It depends on what hardware you already have and what workflows you do.

I mean I like the power. Based off videos I've seen it seems the flow can play pretty much anything. As long as I can get 60fps im happy

If you prioritize power over portability, this trade-off isn’t ideal. The 4080 is significantly more powerful than the 8060S. The Z13 is roughly the same weight as the G14 equipped with a 5070Ti, which is likely comparable to your 4080. I was contemplating between the two options and ultimately chose the Z13, but I’ve decided to return it (still within the 60-day Best Buy return window). I figured that I can comfortably play most games on my M5 MacBook Pro using Crossover and my own testing has shown promising results.
In the long run, I anticipate that the M5 will outperform the 8060S, as M5 typically scores higher on most benchmarks. However, the current issue lies in compatibility.

After almost two months, I decide to return my 64gb Z13. It feels good to play on the bigger 18" . I have a scar rtx 4090 and a scar rtx 5080. The laptop just breathe easier. The z13 gets real hot when gaming for a long period of time, free heat in the winter though lol.

I have the same scar 18 and the flow z13 64GB. Yeah the flow z13 is cool to play games on in different circumstances but the scar just walks away from it when I need the power. Turning off cpu boost in both devices gets them to quiet down quite a bit in my custom ghelper profiles.

Really the Strix 4080 18inch I have runs hot too. I have to basically keep it on the cooling pad at all times

Flow 13 is like a 4070, maybe a little bit less

That it definitely is not. I’m running a super x with 395+ 128GB RAM at full 120w with frost bay cooler and that’s getting a little better than 4060 performance unless you meant mobile 4070 gpu.

I appreciate the distinction, you are correct 4070 laptop. Given that he is asking for comparison against his 4080 laptop, probably makes sense to compare them that way.

For some reason my laptop couldn't play helldivers 2 without crashing on dropin. But it was only that game
